Pink background with white and yellow letters
Installed WITPAE on new Lenovo gaming computer. In menus, messages at bottom on screen, combat summaries, etc. the letters are white or light yellow on a pink backgrounds. (see attached screenshot) I did a standard unadjusted install of the new Beta. How can this be fixed?
Less important I also need advice on how I should set up switches for the launch (e.g., for full screen). That's always been a painful process for me on new installations and my memories have faded on how to do it, but I've never before had crazy coloration of messages. It's virtually unreadable.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
The switches are likely your answer to the pink problem, most likely the -deepColor switch. You can download Seabee Alpha from this forum and you can select your switches without having to know the exact format of the switch or where it goes in the Shortcut properties. I think Seabee also creates a shortcut for you that points to the game executable file rather than the Autorun.exe (a menu program) that the base game still installs on your desktop.
If you really want to understand switches you can read the thread on slow performance in this Forum. It has many posts about switches and lots of screenshots with the explanations.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

Looks like you posted twice because the forum has been acting up and looking like it didn't accept your first post. In fact, it did accept it but hasn't been refreshing the screen with your post added. Only way to see that is to return to the thread listing for this subforum and then click on your thread again. The reply you posted will then be visible.

Thank you BBfanboy for this -deepColor hint.
It works.
It works.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
I recently downloaded WitP-AE again and got this same pink background problem.
Tried the solutions mentioned.
What worked for me was adding the -dd_sw switch.
Just adding that one item by itself was enough to get rid of the pink background.
I experimented with just adding the -deepColor and -altFont switches, both by themselves and together, they do make things look better they didn't effect the pink background.
In the end I left all three in place and everything seems to be working fine.
What I ended up with is: -f -px2560 -py1440 -dd_sw -altFont -deepColor

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
New computer {W11}. Old one died. I think this is the sixth new laptop where WITP is the first game installed.
My problem is green fields. I have -deepColor and I added the -dd_sw switch and no change.
Mine shows up after alt-tab during a combat report {running a turn} to do add to my notes {turns invariable turns into a history of the war book}. And the fields stay {or some do, haven't checked this} when I ESC to start the turn running again. This yields ever more fields that cover the screen. As I do this, the Base flags stay on screen as well till the whole mess looks like some of the food I've cooked over the years.
My only idea now is to play off the combat report at the end of the turn.
Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
Laptops seem to be a special case when running this game - perhaps because they run video off a motherboard chip rather than an entire video card. I recall some players struggling to get full screen game display on a laptop and when they did, it had problems such as you mention. I have also inferred from my experience that the game does not like the ESC key pressed too many times. If you always do that to close an info screen the game loses track of where it is and starts to hide things like all the LCUs at a base. A restart of the game fixes that but remember to save your current work.
Could you post your current game shortcut Properties in the Target box (the game path and switches you have chosen)? That will help us see any issues. You may also have to play with things like Windows transparency settings.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
Thank You!
Command switches are: -fd -altFont -cpu2 -multiaudio -px1920 -py1080 -deepColor -skipvideo
Oops. the whole command line is "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" -fd -altFont -cpu2 -multiaudio -px1920 -py1080 -deepColor -skipvideo
I have not tried windowed mode.
My laptop has a dedicated video card. Native resolution is 2560x1600.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
Turning transparency off did not change anything.
I tried going to windowed mode and no change.
I added f to the back of the px/py.

Shouldn't you be pointing to War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe vice autorun.exe?rockmedic109 wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 1:21 am Thank You!

Yes, it's the WitP AE.exe NOT the autorun.exe.homer82 wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 2:18 amShouldn't you be pointing to War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe vice autorun.exe?rockmedic109 wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 1:21 am Thank You!

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
I think that's {changing from autorun} got it. Though the first time I tried it, had a black screen of death that I could not even pull up Task Manager. Tried it again in case it was a computer oops and this seemed to do the trick.
Thank You
I think my wife may not be so happy though.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
So I have installed WITP and I installed SeaBee. I still get the pink screen. I see it says this can be done adding a switch but that statement is total Greek to me. I have no idea how to do that. Please help.
Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
Switches are little bits of text that prompt the game to run on newer Windows versions and newer hardware than the 2009 original game did. If you have Seabee running just select the -deepColor switch and it will put it in the right place for you. Then try the game again.
If you want to understand about switches the stickied threads in the upper part of this Tech Forum has one on slow performance that explains with lots of screenshots too. You can find it at https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=332855

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
Well, this is annoying.
I did not play for a week and now the pink highlights are back. I re-wrote the command line switches and not only nothing but when set to -pxf1920 and -pyf1080, the game only covers the lower right portion of the screen. I tried changing -deepColor to be first in the command line; I didn't think it would work and it didn't.
I seem to recall on my last computer that the command lines stopped working after a long hiatus. I do not remember how I fixed it.
Anybody with an idea? The next thing I can think of trying is an exorcism.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
It would help if you post your complete command line - both path and switches. Ensure you used the hyphen at the top of the keyboard, not the minus sign on the numeric keypad.

Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters
The pathway goes to the .exe and not autorun.
-fd -altFont, -cpu2 -pxf1920 -pyf 1080 -deepColor -multiaudio
I've changed the pxf/pyf and no changes. Not expecting any. I moved -deepColor to the front of the list; shot in the dark and it's still dark...or pink. Upgraded to the .28 from .26a after trying Seabee and getting no pw data. Did not change. Seabee is a lot easier but I don't know if it does anything that isn't done by the command line.
What's weird is that it was running without the pink highlight and after a week of not playing it now does it again. I figure it's got to be something on my computer, I just cannot think of what is.
