Air coordination and same HQ

Maybe I'm overthinking this and probably knew but my old age forgot and cannot find.

The rules state that 'Air units with the same Command HQ have a better chance of coordination.' What exactly does 'same command' mean?

Air HQ are not command HQs so I've always assumed this applies to any AGs assigned to an air HQ and the AGs are within it's command radius.

This has nothing to do with the base but if the base is also part of the same command HQ then you get the added bonus in admin stacking.

I tested this thing a bit some time ago using two Ida units in Canton in scen001 as Japan.

THEATRE COMMAND

Two Ida groups: 27 and 10 aircraft-strong
Thus same model of aircraft, same cruise speed

Exp pilot average: 65
Skill gnd attack average: 65

Leader stats: Leaderships/Insp/ Air 62-65

Destination: A Chinese LCU in an ADJACENT hex to Canton (one hex flight). LCU's terrain is Clear.

The 10-strong Ida unit was taken from Takao (Formosa) and was assigned to 5th Air Division HQ. The original Ida Canton unit was assigned to China Expeditionary HQ.


In the tests, they ALWAYS flew in TWO separate raids instead of ONE raid

Once, there was a message flashed ” Mission cancelled for 74th Chutai in Canton!” . I have never seen this message before. My guess is the mission was cancelled by 5th Air HQ in Takao.

Anyway, once the smaller unit was assigned to China Expeditionary HQ, then both units started flying as ONE raid (tested 05 2020)

Thanks Yaab but this only tell me that two AG coordinate when in the same Air HQ with I know. It doesn't tell me anything about the command HQ bonus that the manual implies you get.

In your example the two units are assigned to different commands, one via the 5th Air Div the other directly. Did you test to see what would happen if you attached the 5th to the China command?

China Expeditionary HQ is a command HQ.

I subordinated both Ida units to this command HQ and afterwards they flew together as one raid.

So in absence of an air HQ, you can subordinate air groups to a command HQ. In this example the China Expeditionary HQ sits in Nanking (17 hexes away). In Canton, you start with air gropus who are either attached to China Expeditionary HQ or 3rd Air Division (not present on map). Also Canton itself is attached to China Expeditionary HQ.

Thus, in order to boost coordination it would be best to attach all air groups in Canton to China Expeditionary HQ.

You can have an Australian bomber group belonging to an Australian air HQ, belonging to Australia Command HQ, and a US fighter group belonging to a US air HQ which belongs to SoPac Command HQ, in one base. This should mess coordination.

Sorry mess? Are you saying they don't or do coorrdinate?
