High lighting Sand dunes?

Post by scaz »

Is there any way to highlight sand dunes in 3D? The 3D graphics are so vague that I can't see them. I like playing in 3D, but the new graphics are way too subtle. Liked the old graphics better, but they don't load properly.

Hi scaz,

I'll push up the contrast on some of the desert terrain. That biome can be particularly hard on the eyes. here's an adjustment I'll get in the update queue.

Thanks Bill, those dunes do stand out a tad better. Desert is a challenging landscape for sure.

Scaz, you are up to 3.x with Middle East versions? In the release notes, available in the manuals folder and behind the Scenario Launcher "What's New" button, there is a how-to on how to enable the legacy 3D map graphics. You do that by renaming the 3D and OLD_3D folders in the Graphics/Map subfolder.

Or are you saying there's issue with that method? Let me know.

I agree. The new 3D graphic are very subdued for some reason. Nothing is defined well with the coloring. Its like they reduced the color range down rather than up. I do prefer the old graphics and I have to ask, I know you can switch to the old but will that be an option in Cold War or East Front 3?

Well, technically yes — we (and I) could add them to CW builds in a similar 3D_OLD manner as they are currently included.

Vietnam comes with a Temperate biome, which by design is the default if no specific image is found (see this CSLegion.com article for details). In that case, the default Temperate set is loaded.

The thing is, those graphic images, a result of numerous artists over time, are not being updated at the moment. We do not have anyone maintaining them. And, the Temperate grachic images in Vietnam are not really adjusted for the European region, there are no European structures (buildings, etc.) available for instance.

We've made an effort for the game to be easily moddable, so maybe that is the answer. TBD.
