Renaming System

Post by BKL »

I know it's been said that you can rename your home system, but I notice that the original still shows up when you click on the planets at the bottom info box. See the pic attached...the new system name is Legend but the old name, Ruunadan,is showing up at the bottom. Am I doing something wrong to get the name renamed properly?

Looks like this was fixed in the 1.3.3.3 public beta.

The system name is updated in the box at the bottom of the screen. However, the old system name still appears in the message pane on the right-hand side. For instance, it would say at the beginning of the game, "A new leader has appeared at OLD NAME." It would be helpful if this could be edited manually or changed by the game, because if you edit a system or rename a planet, you can at least look back at messages and know what planet is being referred to in the message box.

It might just be that one message. The leader appears the moment the game begins, so the system still has the old name when that message is generated. In general, all messages will show the name that the asset had at the time the message was created and will not retroactively change the name.

Example: The default name is "Procyon 6"
Since the leader is generated immediately, it will say "A leader appears at Procyon 6", even if you change the name while the game is still paused at the very beginning.

You rename it "Homeworld"
All subsequent messages will reference "Homeworld"
The initial leader message will still refer to "Procyon 6"

You later change the name to "Taco Palace"
All subsequent messages will reference "Taco Palace"
All previous messages will still reference "Homeworld"
The initial leader message will still refer to "Procyon 6"

So it does update the name, but it doesn't carry any changes backward through the message tree.
