What changes would you want in WITE3?

Post by Nazcatraz »

Would you like to be able to move supplies manually instead of relying on depot priorities? Being able to pick what panzer unit get oil/fuel priority? Being able to pick what freight routes are used? Should we get the option to adjust AFV or aircraft production ourselves? Better air war missions?

For those who have spent a lot of time with WITE2, what would justify a WITE3 in your opinion? Do you think WITE3 will ever exist at all?

Great topic!

So, I'd like a WiE (War in Europe) that simulates World War II across all of Europe, including Africa (land, air, and naval).

And I'd also like more player influence over resources, production, (research,) transport, etc. The graphics could be a bit more military and historically accurate (depots, railway repairs, etc.).

The potential for this is definitely there in WitE 2.

I've never seen such a detailed strategy game.

Not to mention the ongoing updates.

Great praise to the developers!

You can mod the optics to some degree.

Yes, I already did that. :)

I think they could 100% do a War in Europe with the current WITE2 gameplay. But let's be honest, that would not do the whole European theater justice. For a real War in Europe game we would need real ship units, real amphibious invasion mechanics, real naval/land convoys. America East Coast would have to be on the map like how the West Coast is in WITP. And then players would have to transport those supplies by sea into UK and the USSR. Which I think would required a whole new engine. Which is why I think they abandoned the idea sadly because that could rival the details of a WITP2 game

A thousand page manual/living manual. And a WiKi with Wiedrock as the archivist. :)

Honestly, I don't think a WITE3 is in the cards. Why do I say that? Most of us would have bought a second or third scenario pack, but 2by3 only did one. A scenario pack is far easier to do with a beta team than writing a new engine or substantially reworking it.

---

I think it would be personally very cool to provide the game with an API UI, and be able to apply ML techniques like Google did with Deep Mind and Go. It would be nice to have a 3GB-6GB VRAM engine that offers a tweakable AI (neural net) player as the game's opponent for SP. It would be a first for 2by3, Slitherine, and the PC games industry.

I just loaded the '41 campaign. 1.3GB VRAM at 1080p (including Windows too). Most players probably have at least 3Gb of VRAM for a neural net opponent.

Seemingly, AI is sucking up all computer hardware around the globe. Let's at least do something useful with it instead of make slop memes. WITE2/ML - the best player since Manstein himself.

Personally I don't think there will be a WITE3, though I don't have any inside information.
This could be the last we see of this type of wargame for some time that tries to simulate on this scale with historical accuracy.
It is a shame as clearly the game has made great strides forwards since WITE1 but still there is much that could be improved. And a huge amount of data there to be used.
I guess there is not much financial incentive compared to the likes of CIV or shoot-em-up simulations.
The lark, signing its chirping hymn,
Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !

If WIS works out, I'd say this is the team to look out for. When/If they will arrive in the East or in "Europe", we shall see.

It's crazy to think about how accurate everything in this game is. The OOB accuracy is the most insane I’ve ever seen in a video game, with a clearer structure than anything else out there. Even compared to WITP AE and WITW, and it’s not even close. My mind is blown every time I come back to the game after a while and just be checking around the map. Makes the game feel alive even with just counters, texts, unit pictures and a map
