I want to say thanks to those that participated in the chat, and a special thanks to David Heath for dropping in and saying hello. We ARE going to do this, so I hope that we can get more participation in the next chat. It's up to you guys who expressed interest in attending. I'm providing the location and the venue--Dave mentioned that Paul Vebber would come with him to this gathering, and Wild Bill already gave his commitment, so let's get this thing in high gear and make sure that the First Annual Matrix Fan Convention will happen the weekend of May 10-11, 2002 in Charleston WV. I need your input, guys. Thanks to all of you who share the vision of making this meeting a reality. Glenn Higginbotham.

Great job on the planning, Glenn. One question on the dates, though. My calendar shows that 10-11 May 2002 is Fri-Sat, and Sun 12 May is Mother's Day. For those with spouses (and kids), blowing off Household 6 on Mother's Day for a wargame convention rivals the charge of the light brigade for willfully riding into certain slaughter...

Thanks for reminding me of that, Mike. My wife would surely have me tarred & feathered, just for starters. I don't want to have it Memorial Day weekend, either. I was thinking a Fri-Sat because I don't think the Conference Center would be open Sunday. I could be wrong, though. In any case I was told by the facility rep that I wouldn't have to make a firm reservation until after the first of the year. That leaves the weekend of May 16-18 or 23-25, OR sometime in June. I'll go with whatever is most convenient for you guys. BTW, the next chat will be during the week, so Wild Bill can participate.

Ok...here's what we'll do...we'll bring them and tell them it's a party for them on mothers day.....yea right...we'd get away with that...
More options will arise...
Take care...Huffy

Hmm, Mothers Day Retreat. Well, perhaps if childcare were available and there was an airconditioned bus to an outlet mall, we might get away with it...

Barring that, how about 2-4 May (first weekend), or 30 May - 1 June? 16-18 May is a possibility, but runs into Armed Forces day for those whose official duties may require a presence. I would avoid 23-25 May as it is during the Memorial Day weekend.

Well, I suppose the best thing is to take a poll from the guys. What weekend between May 1 and June 30 do you prefer? Yeah, Memorial Day is May 27 next year, so I'm leaning with Mike towards May 3-5 or May 31-June 2. The weather here in spring is usually pleasant, for those who may want to get in a little golf or whatever. Another thing to think of is that travel prices (gas, airline tickets) tend to rise around Memorial Day, so early May could be the prime time. BTW, here's the site for the WV Division of Tourism: http://www.callwva.com/ If there's anything you need or have questions about, either post them here or e-mail me.

On a whim, I contacted Col Dave Hackworth about appearing at our fan convention. I'm pretty sure there will several representatives from Matrix attending, but I'm still hoping to add a special extra attraction, such as some specialist or author in the military genre. Well, the Colonel answered, but as I suspected, his fee is way beyond anything I or we could approach. Don't fault me for being ambitious, but I'll keep trying to find a special guest, IF you guys would want something a little extra. IMO, simply having David, Paul & Wild Bill here is incentive aplenty to attend. I'll be putting together some sort of press release as the meeting time approaches, and I'm certain we can get some local print and TV media attention. I won't be hosting another chat till early next week. I do need some input from you on the preferred meeting dates. We need to get the dates set ASAP. After that, we can get down to serious planning.

A guest would be great - the first guy I think of is William Trotter from PCGamer. He put the word out about this game early on and it's how I found it. I have no idea where he lives but you can email him at desktopgeneral@pcgamer.com.

I have difficulity making chats so I'm never in on them but I am interested in this. As I mentioned I may be able to provide some LAN support hauled up from Atlanta in my station wagon but if you need anything else just ask.

Yep that is the same way I found out about this great game. It could also spark some more free press about the game.

Dates are not an issue with us as it's only about a day drive down. See all of you there.

PC Gamer rep would be awesome. I think the convention started by players of the game is a great PC gamer story.

BTW, anyone see PC Gamers Top 50 PC Games all time. No mention of Steel Panther Series???? I personally put that in the top 3.

Thanks, guys, for your recommendation of William Trotter. I don't frequent PC Gamer, but I'll check it out. I'll contact him after we have a firm date set. Setting the date will be the primary topic for the next chat session, which will be Tuesday (8/28) or Wednesday (8/29). I'll make sure that Wild Bill can participate, since he has promised to be here, and his presence will generate more interest in joining the session. Glenn.

OK, the next chat will be on Thursday August 30 starting at 8 pm. Wild Bill will be there, and I need to get a firm commitment on the date. For you guys who are coming, please try to participate. Thanks, Glenn.
