How Do Engineers Blow up a Bridge?

Post by rmeckman »

In the image below, an engineer squad blew up a bridge at 04:22. However, the squad does not appear to have expended any of its own armaments to destroy the bridge, nor is the truck subunit listed as containing explosives. Is there an assumption in the game that engineer units get the explosives for blowing a bridge from an external source not tracked in the subunits?

Another option is that bridges are assumed to have been rigged with explosives prior to the scenario start, so the engineers are setting off charges already in place.

Carefully. Joking aside, the kit to do the job is abstracted into the act of blowing the bridge. While the engineers carry satchel charges, they are intended for combat actions, not for the demolition of bridges. Many of the East-West bridges in Germany were built with explosive points built into the structure to speed up the operation in case of war.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!
