1776 Blimps Ignore Throttle Setting and use Loiter Speed

Post by boogabooga »

Blimps seem to ignore their throttle setting and use a slow speed instead.

Out of curiosity, are they impacted by wind?

The generic blimp has a piston engine, but 0 fuel and you cannot change it.

In fact all have 0 fuel.

Helios jammer and the spy ballon, balloon propulsion. Wind? But not even a hurricane changes the speed.

There is a scenario setting, but is for ships "Weather affects ship speed"

A weather front is a unit?

So if you add fuel in the editor, can they move?

If you try it will remain as 0 fuel.

And an error is displayed, fuel cannot be 0 or negative.

It looks like 'Balloon Propulsion #1' is of type 'Nuclear', so that explains the zero fuel. It's not meant to run out of fuel. Which is fine IMHO, to abstract the jet stream, etc. The Chinese Spy balloon was drifting along at about 25 knots a few years ago.

However, for the generic blimp, the fuel should probably be finite.

Yes, that makes sense. Now that we have Custom Environment Zones, you can mark the reference points of the zone to be relative to the weather front unit. Then, the weather moves as the unit moves. I'll post a demo later.

Edit: Here is a demo.

Nice, you simulated a moving hurricane :)

CMO should use another icon for this kind of unit.

The speed of the ship is reduced to 0. I have no idea of sea navigation.

The ships completely stop under these circumstances?

They do when they sink.
