Looking for Advice

Post by Dereck »

In my other games (War in the West and War in the East 2) I either have a strategic plan already in place or at least understand what I need to do.

With War in the Pacific there's just so much to handle that I still haven't got a grasp on everything. If I ever had a strategy/checklist document it went bye-bye when my previous hard drive died on me and they weren't in a backed up folder.

HOW do people come up with the strategy they need to follow in this game? So far I'm only in May 1942 and just been reacting for the most part of building up bases but I need to get a plan together for everything (naval, air, ground, logistics, etc).

What do people here do? By the way I'm playing the Allies.

Thanks

P.S.: I'm sorry Ranger Joe but I don't have a picture for you on this.

Pretty simple really:
- first six months save what you can and fight to delay IJ expansion
- next 12 months stop the IJ everywhere and begin moving in your freed up units; decide what axis or axes you want to advance on
- next 12 months begin your advance with the aim to have bombers in range of Japan by the end of it
- end game push everywhere IJ is weak while hammering the homeland
No matter how bad a situation is, you can always make it worse. - Chris Hadfield : An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth

Move supplies forward, build large stockpiles in New Zealand for the Southern Pacific if closer bases to the action area are threatened. Dump supplies in Australia for SWPAC. Move supplies to Cape Town and later Aden for use in SEAC.

Capture Tokyo . . .
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

Allied beginning is easy.

You first try to defend Phillipines and Malaya.
Then you try to defend DEI and Burma.

After you have lost them all, you can expect India or Australia invasions. If they don't materialise, you can finally think about your offensive strategy of getting closer to Japan. Will it be Alaska, Central Pacific or New Guinea/PI route or maybe a combination thereof?

Some of this might help.

Some of the stuff is outdated, but strategy is solid.

I like to follow semi-historic action. Holding action in Central Pacifc and SEAC while building up and using air power when possible. Akyab, Chittagong to Ledo line I hold. Build up airbases there and wait for forces, by the end of 42 there are some really good forces in SEA theater. Will get air superiority and start moving back into Burma. How you do this, I generally use Akyab for my jump off point. It take a little more time to reach the road system. Otherwise can also do a landing at Bassein and build up a foothold there has a main road into Burma. That would depend on my naval forces and air support.

South pacific I pretty much follow historical plan. Stop them at Guadalcanal if possible, retake and then move north bypassing Rabaul but taking Gasmata and Cape Gloucester than using built up bases to cut off all supply to these local area. From there it is unknown. Can follow history or make your own plans from there. 1943 start moving in from Pearl through the Marshall's while moving further north from Bismark area into Truk - Guam.

Of course my scenario is not base, it is one of the Crazy Ironman scenarios. Lots tougher but more interesting. But, in 20+ years I have never had a game end so to speak as in someone was victorious haha. I always enjoy the first couple of years, never invaded Japan etc. I might have finished one in the Uncommon Valor release before the main game release in 2004.
