Scenario 12 Guadalcanal issue

Post by erstad »

So, I'm dipping my toe back into WITP:AE after a long absence. Played Coral Sea as Allies versus AID, Scen 12 Guadalcanal; as Allies versus AI, and fired up Scen 12 Guad as Jap versus AI.

Rabaul starts with 0 Aviation support! Despite having 117 aircraft present. It has 6th Base force, but neither the current unit nor the TOE have any av support. This starts Japan way behind the curve, one could ship in Av from Truk but that takes time, and also makes me question general scenario integrity.

Am I missing something? I do have a fresh install on a new computer, so an outside concern is I didn't install correctly but this is too narrow to make that likely.

So, I’m dipping my toe back in the WITP:AE waters after an extended absence. I played Coral Sea Allies versus AI; Scen 12 Guadalcanal Allies versus AI; and just fired up Scen 12 Jap versus AI.

Rabaul starts with 0 Aviation Support! Despite having nearly 120 aircraft present. Av support could be shipped in from Truk, but this gives Japan a significantly slow start. And, it makes me question the general scenario integrity/goodness.

Am I missing something and this makes sense somehow? I am on a fresh install on a new computer; maybe I messed up the install but this is too narrow an issue for that to be likely.

When the game was released in 2009 the 11th Air Fleet HQ in this scenario was at Rabaul along with the 8th Fleet. Later, the Guadalcanal scenario was updated and they were removed. Not sure why.

You can fly in air support much faster than shipping them in. Use your patrol planes if necessary.

The Japanese were not expecting the invasion of Guadalcanal. After losing carrier cover at Coral Sea, they cancelled the amphib invasion of Port Moresby and dropped some of those troops at Buna. The aircraft at Rabaul were likely planned for transfer to Buna to get air superiority over PM. Zero air support does sound harsh though. What difficulty setting are you using?

Why have you made the same complaint in two posts? This doubles your work to read replies and our work to make them.

Edit: make that 3 times and triple work.

It is scenario error, it seems and can be corrected with editor.

Not saying all machine or the forum and it's not everytime but there appears to be some bug with the forum in that when you click submit it does not close the post you are editing once it's been posted. I know now to use the browser back button and not press submit again when this happens. If you refresh the page you will see the post.

Just make sure you've copied the content cuse if it did not post it's gone.

When I posted, I got a 504 Gateway timed out error. So I assumed it didn't post, tried two more times and gave up. I didn't realize it actually posted until today.
