Bad Weather Air Attacks

Post by LoneRunner »

I've been away from World at War for over 3 years, so I've been doing a deep dive through the forums for rule changes. I noticed that the air rules have changed significantly and the game manual appears to be out of date. I found a May 23, 2023 post from Hubert (thanks Hubert) regarding air attacks:
  • Air units can now recon and attack in bad weather.
All attacks in bad weather will be at 50% effectiveness.
Rebasing an air unit lowers its spotting range in half.
Rebased air units can not swap with an adjacent unit.
Air units in fog/rain, snow or sandstorm will not de-entrench
The list brings up a few questions.
  • Does bad weather for air attack effectiveness include rain/fog, snow, and sandstorms but not mud and frozen?
If mud and frozen do not affect air attack effectiveness, do they have any other affect on air?
Does bad weather affect air ranges (other than spotting range)?
Are there other updates to air unit rules?
Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Correct, it does not effect mud and frozen. Those are effects that are on the ground, not in the air. Which makes sense to me.

Yes, bad weather effects range as well, I want to say half.

Don't think there are other updates.

Thanks Edprem. I'm not sure if the bad weather effect occurs when the bad weather is in the hex that the air unit took off from or in the hex that is attacked, or both.
