Turn 53 Allied Phase

Post by kentkroeckel »

July 1, 1944

Short post this time. Ground results are still not recording.

Breakdown of air phase below:

Action....................Axis.................Allies
German phase...........123.................043
Allied phase..............514.................858
Allied ground phase.....063.................049

total losses...............700.................950

I rounded a little bit in ground losses to make even figures but wanted to show how an air loss gets tallied. This is a lot of aircraft on both sides being lost. Below is chart for Allied air phase only.

A final thought on this. Germany lost almost fifty transports this turn. Additionally, Metalist and myself use them every single turn. Unfortunate that most players do not. I hope that by January of 1945 Luftwaffe will be depleted of them. Then supply of units on contact line will be limited for Germany.

Next two pictures are by reconnaissance. Notice how deep Axis units are; two to three rows. Below is picture of D-Day

Final picture is of Italy. Contact line is 16 hexes long and is in green. It is jagged in spots and since it is not a straight line Allies will be able to hit it hard next turn.

Allies took one hex this turn and it is traced in red. Air transports moved to new location so were not able to assist with supply.

Turn 54 Preliminary

July 8, 1944.

European air: Rain
European ground: Clear. Water level 1.

Mediterranean weather is clear.

Amphibious pool is 135, an increase of three.
Cargo ship pool is 1,997, an increase of 10.

Victory point for turn were -15 and game total is 210. Zero by January 1945. I took a snapshot of this to keep showing how points are being created. American losses accounted for -11 while (other losses) accounted for -12.

Screenshot 2025-12-17 105228.jpg (100.4 KiB) Viewed 644 times

Germany did not conduct any ground attacks according to (current turn records) which may not be accurate.

Next picture is of interdiction on D-Day region. Rain impacted effects of ground interdiction a bit. Germany is at 2-3 but Allies are still at 8-9.

Screenshot 2025-12-17 103510.jpg (80.17 KiB) Viewed 642 times

Italian front is the next picture. Contact line is 15 hexes long and highlighted in green. There has been movement on it, as Germany withdrew from 5 hexes. they are circled in black.

Final picture is of German air phase. Luftwaffe lost 282 while Allies lost 58. I have lighted three categories in yellow, all of which are Axis.

Level bombers: Turn loss 45. Game loss 2,845.
Reconnaissance: Turn loss 7. Game loss 429.
Transport: Turn loss 9. Game loss 790.

These three categories will start to drop off sharply if losses continue because Germany reduces production of these aircraft from summer of 1944.

Allies have also experienced reduction of air resources. Squadrons of British air reconnaissance have been deleted. Same for British night fighters. A few patrol aircraft from minor nations have been too. All of their limited pilots going to fighter aircraft. Half a dozen American heavy bomber wings have also been deleted. Not enough material and pilots to fill all of them. To be more precise; not enough to even keep a reasonable amount in each wing.

Ground attack recording is not working so short AAR for this turn. Following is of D-Day. Two hexes were taken, with one being occupied. Both are lined in red. There are three routed / depleted Axis units in picture. Yellow outline.

For total air phase Germany lost 454 and Allies lost 879. An advantage of 425 for Luftwaffe. Many aircraft lost to operations and flak.

No ground results working yet but did take two pictures. First is of Italy. One hex was defeated but not taken due to mountain terrain. Hex is in Red. I outlined a few units in yellow that are routed. Many Allied units were reshuffled this turn.

Next picture is of D-Day region. No hex was taken but I highlighted hex that was continually attacked; in yellow. Allies attempted an invasion this turn at a port located in D-Day region. It is highlighted in Blue. I believe when the attack happens weather should be clear.

Victory Points: For turn -11. Game total is -185.

Weather for map is clear.
Ground conditions for map are clear.

Amphibious pool is 135. Four less than last turn but mostly due to invasion attempt.
Cargo ship pool is 2027. This is an increase of eight.

There is no indication of Axis ground attacks.

Amphibious invasion failed and there is no record of results.

First picture is of D-Day region. Germany has interdiction of nine on an important hex of Allies. Allies have only five on its counterpart. However, the Allied phase is still to come. Both are highlighted in yellow. Naval interdiction went well and Germany is not trying anymore. But that will change when another invasion happens on France.

Turn 56 Allied Air Phase

Post by kentkroeckel »

July 22, 1944

First picture is of Allied air phase in action. Following is snapshot at 95% complete. Sorties are highlighted in yellow. They are nearing a ten to one ratio, which is okay for Germany. Luftwaffe needs to be selective now in this phase of the war. And results are still good for Luftwaffe on direct engagements. Moreover, most Allied losses are due to operations, flak and other indirect contact. Losses at this point are also highlighted in yellow.

Following chart shows completed air losses for Allied air phase. I have highlighted German night fighters in blue. 84 were lost in this phase and for the whole game the total is 1,121. that is almost eight percent. Transports lost this turn are at 64 and for the the whole game the loss stands at 893. This is highlighted in yellow.

German game total losses: 20,086.
Allied game total losses: 33,549.

Total for air phase so far is 521 for Axis while Allies lost 699. Luftwaffe advantage of 178. I increased altitude of tactical level bomber raids.

Turn 56 Allied Ground Phase

Below is a record of attack on Italy. It is only showing this one hex and shows Allies loosing. Allies attacked a couple times and won the hex; then moved in. Ground phase log error is messing up system. Maybe system is just showing first attack but I cannot be sure because I do not recall results for each attack.

Turn 57 Naval Update

I have a treat for all; thanks to Metalist. He sent me a snapshot of the previous naval invasion on French coast. It failed but at least we all can see the results.

I have included the final invasion of the Second British Channel Island. It was successful this turn but I have no idea how much. Well, actually I do. Metalist informed me that the two previous Axis units there had been withdrawn a few turns ago. Allied reconnaissance did not catch this. Island is circled in Blue.

Turn 57 Allied Combat

Post by kentkroeckel »

July 29, 1944.

A hex was continually attacked along short contact line, D-Day. Finally it broke, after several weeks being in high interdiction. Success on this invasion is measured by the hex. Actually, just about all of the Allied invasions have been measured by a single hex advance. It is outlined in Red. Because of this, two hexes were attacked and taken by airborne units. They are outlined in pink.
Screenshot 2025-12-26 215556.jpg

On Italy there were two hexes taken. one by combat and the other due to German withdraw. both are outlined in Red. Because of this advance, an airborne drop was conducted. Rail is now broken for many German units on contact line. hex is outlined in pink.

I forgot to save screenshot of air chart but following is the stats for the turn.
Axis lost 398 aircraft and Allies lost 660. This is an advantage of 262 for Luftwaffe. This still does not include losses for both sides during Allied ground action.

Weather is perfect on map.

Victory points: -21 for turn. Game total is 146.

Amphibious ship pool: 135. An increase of two.
Cargo ship pool: 2067. An increase of twenty-three.

I removed and then reinstalled game this turn and do have German ground attack results from Axis phase.

Picture is from Italian front. Result is of Germany attacking and destroying British airborne division. It did a rather sloppy job of defense too. Hex is in Black.

Germany also vacated one hex in Italy. It is highlighted in green.

For sadistic fun, I decided to count divisions that Germany has along Italian contact line. (Ha). I separated it by three categories and below is the result.

Mechanized divisions: 9. This includes armor and SS.
Specialized infantry divisions: 8. This includes airborne and mountain.
Regular infantry divisions: 16. This includes traditional and non specialized.
Total: 33. Plus more in reserve just north of Italian contact line.

Final picture is of Italian campaign. I was looking at where the invasion for Rome happened many months ago and Allies are still a few hexes away from securing the northern part of it. Truly, this location of the game is measured by individual hexes.

Two hexes were taken by combat and are in red.
One hex was taken in combat but not occupied. It is circled in black.
One hex is in green, which was abandoned by Germany.

Three Axis units were routed and are circled in yellow.
Two Axis units will be removed from play this next turn (59) and sent to eastern front. However, I do believe they come back in December of 1944. I could only find one of the panzer units because the other destroyed the British airborne division so is not on contact line. The one found is circled in purple. (Hermann Goering Panzer Division)

Turn 59 German Phase

I have three pictures sent to me, courtesy of Metalist. They show what took place during the Allied landings. This would be after German logistics, but before any action taken by Axis player. Pictures represent three of four landings but all four were successful.

Fourth picture is has some confusion to it. I received a copy of it from Metalist but it showed as (2 attack). On my Allied phase it shows as (1 attack). I think it might be that the first attack was from invasion and second attack is of Axis counter attack. At any rate, there is only one picture of the same thing and below it is posted. it shows how Allied units were routed from a coastal invasion hex. In fact, two of the four hexes were taken back by Germany.

Turn 59 Allied Ground Phase

Post by kentkroeckel »

August 15, 1944.

I have two pictures to show; one for each front. Battle locator still not working for Allies so just colored circles to show.

D-Day region: First picture shows both invasion sites. One hex was taken back at the new site while three were taken back on main invasion site. The four hexes are circled in red. (Missed one). This could force Germany back one complete row; which would alleviate some pressure on Allies. However, there is still no possibility of an Allied breakout. Yet Germany has also lost any opportunity to shove Allies back onto the beaches. Now the new site is still very much in danger.

Italy: One hex was abandoned by Germany and is in green. Four hexes were taken by combat and are circled in red. Two more hexes are under Allied zone of control but are vacant so probibly will be occupied by German units. Yet there is a thought on this. Along the western coast German units are exposed so there might be a withdraw, back three hexes to where the lake hex is.

Turn 60 German Ground Phase

Post by kentkroeckel »

August 19, 1944.

Victory Point: Turn -22. Game total is 108.

Germany did two ground attacks this turn. Both were successful so now the second French Invasion site is down to just one Allied hex, circled in blue. I counted nine powerful Axis armor divisions there. Below is picture of situation. Both hexes taken by Axis are circled in brown, with the one that has results marked as such.

Next picture shows the specific results of main attack. unfortunately, the other hex attack is not recorded by (Battle Locator Mode) function. Allies had none shown.

Next picture shows D-Day invasion site. One hex was withdrawn from by Germany and is circled in green. Additionally, I have circled three hexes (yellow) which I thought Axis might abandon in order to make a stronger defensive line. I was wrong. It seems Metalist is not going to give up any hex unless absolutely nessecary.

Final picture is of Italian Front. It did not change so Germany is not going to withdraw from the west coast of that area. However, I did circle (yellow) the hexes that I thought might have been abandoned. This makes the contact line 15 hexes long.
