Arty Stops Following Orders

Post by DeckelT »

While playing scenario 4 "Revisiting Schotten" of the U.S. "Stop Gap" campaign, my 3 artillery batteries stopped completing the Barrage and Rest and Resupply orders they were given. On the Unit Dashboard for 1/SPA/2-6, Order 1 shows a barrage order given at 6:22. Amost 90 minutes later at the start of the 8:51 turn, there have been no barrages from it. Batteries 2 and 3 where also given orders to barrage or resupply and then barrage that have not been carried out during that time period.

When I realized what was happening I deleted order 1 from each of the batteries and they then carried out the barrage orders that where the new order 1 (Barrage at 8:46 for 1/2-6 shown below.) during the ensuing turn. I did not see this problem in any of the first 3 scenarios or at any other time playing a stand scenarios, nor did the problem repeat during the remainder of this scenario. The save file for the 8:51 turn is attached below.

This game is broken, so many subtle bugs, yet the devs say it is not.

Your zip file seems to only contain a .blr file, which can't be used to see the scenario. You need to include a .sav file.

@Bairdlander2 - broken implies not playable. The game is very playable. Yes, we are working on a number of these minor bugs. This is an odd case where something in the arty unit's order sequence is not working as intended. My guess is there aren't enough rounds to complete one of the missions, and things are hanging up on that. We are dealing with any of these items that pop up, and a number will be correct in the upcoming 02 update.

@DeckelT - as noted above, can you zip up and post both the ".SCN" and ".BLR" files for the turn with the bug for us to review? Thanks.

Sorry about that.

I certianly agree with Capt. Darwin. The game is not broken and the changes that add the complications are, to me, a definite improvement to one of the best war games (FCSS) I've ever enjoyed playing since I found Avalon Hill's Tacticts II and Gettysburgh when I was in the 8th grade.

I don't see not having enough rounds available being the problem, as all three batterries are at well over 200 rounds. Once I deleted the orders that weren't being executed, the barrages ordered were completed.
