Computer Player in "Hunting in the Woods"

Post by rmeckman »

I finished the Hunting in the Woods scenario with the computer playing the Czechoslovakian side (ver 3.0.1.10236). The computer player seemed largely passive. At the end of the 4 hours, most of the CZ 2nd Bn was still near its arrival locations on the east side of the map (image below). Only the battalion's tank company tried to take the eastern VP locations. The log display in the image shows that one of the motor rifle companies moved only one hex during the 4 hours. I have attached a save file from the end of this scenario.

I haven't done much with the editor, but I was able to get around enough to see that the computer player was using BP CZ 3, which has the 2nd Bn advancing towards the Haidenaab River and then holding the eastern VP locations. Nothing stood out to me to indicate why only the tank company followed the battleplan, whereas other units in the 2nd Bn more or less ignored it. A couple of the infantry companies briefly came under mortar fire, but that doesn't seem enough to abandon the plan.

Is BP CZ 3 working as intended?

As a follow-up, I reran the scenario in computer vs computer mode with BP CZ 3. The Czechoslovakian 2nd Bn moved as expected. This suggests that something specific happened to abort the battleplan in during the run described in the OP. One odd thing is that in the save file attached to the OP, the 2nd Bn units have SOPs that don't match anything I could find when looking at this scenario in the editor.

SOPs can differ across battle plans and from the base setup the player uses. I'll see if I can review your save on Sunday, or have our SOP guy review it. Thanks for posting.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!
