Question about comms disruption

Post by Stanley_The_Rolmate »

I've got a quick question about 'out of comms' units.
Is it possible to have a group of 'out of comms' units still share data with each other, but not with the rest of the units of a side?
The only way I could think of was setting the units to a different side and changing the posture so data doesn't get shared.

I use sides to manage different comms channels all the time. Its the easiest and cleanest way to do it.

No, a unit out-of-comms cannot communicate with other units.

You can move them to a different side if you want to communicate to each other but not with the "parent" group

Yeah thanks thought so. I'll probably end up doing it with sides, though the scenatio will probably end up with a lot of sides.

I ran a scenario of my own that had over a dozen sides. Recon, AD, strike, comms, and few others per side. There was also a neutral side. They came in and out of comms depending on a few scenario events. It was more than five years ago, but it worked at the basic level. It wasn't a huge amount of work. Now with comms disruption and jamming, it would probably be a lot less.

Assuming the unit has not been damaged, you can control communications depending on the side the unit is assigned to. If a side is neutral or hostile to another side, it won't be talking to them, so whatever it sees on sensors, etc. will not be seen by that side (at least, not through the unit's sensors).

If the unit is out of communication because it has taken damage, I don't think it can talk to anyone.

Related question...has Command implemented short-range communication? Even if the radio on a ship is out, it could use spotlights blinking in Morse code, or flags, etc. to talk to other ships if they were only a mile or so away from each other. I don't suppose this is modeled yet, is it?
