In wite2, also a Gary Grisby game, you can tell planes to fly in various weather conditions, including a blizzard. Their performance and OP losses are of course affected by the conditions.

My only but big issue with witp-ae is even without advanced weather options on, planes refuse to fly in fairly moderate conditions, like overcast.

In one turn my bombers didn't fly because the target hex was "overcast", so they obediently sat on the tarmac whilst they themselves were blown to smithereens. How they knew the target hex was overcast given it was a long way of, well more than 100miles, I don't know. Maybe they took a satellite image of it.

In the same turn, my opponent's aircraft bombed a hex that was raining.

I have also experienced land and carrier-based aircraft not attacking fleets who were spotted, in range, flying from bases with a ton of supply, torpedoes etc. No message at all as to why they didn't fly/attack. Checked the squadrons upon receipt of the turn and they were all set correctly, range etc.

I would return to witp-ae immediately if these issues were addressed.

Other than these two issues, the game is a gem. But given the importance of the air war, I don't want to rely on some hidden die roll for my planes to do what they were ordered to do.

It sounds like you are making an assumption that your bombers did not fly because of "overcast at target". I have never seen that happen. Reasons for not flying could include:

- no fighter escort and CAP at the enemy base
- bad weather at origin base (the weather reported at the end of the turn is what it was as night was falling - it could have been awful all day)
- heavily fatigued pilots and aircraft
- leaders with low aggression or inspiration
- not enough air support or too small a base to prep all the bombers for the mission
-lack of supply (munitions and aviation fuel)
- staff omission in giving orders for the mission - it happens!

It would help when you have these issues if you could post a screen shot or two of the squadron and base involved, and the map with cloudy weather showing.

Lots of things that affect air missions:

- weather both in base and target area
- commander skills and aggression
- squadron morale
- detection level of enemy (that enemy is spotted does not mean DL is very high, lower DL, more likely no attack)

Etc.

Read this for some more: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6&t=175387

It explains quite well why results are sometimes frustrating. Those are not bugs needing to be fixed but in-game calculations.

I no longer have the saves and this was more than a year ago.

As to my assumption that this is what happened, I watched the replay again and was able to stop it and see the message pop up over the base of my bombers, something to the effect of "mission cancel due to bad weather at target hex." I checked the target hex, overcast.

As to the other reasons, my air crews were well rested and had good leaders, good weather, and escorts, no reason for them not to fly that I can make out. This happened occasionally over a period of time, but I gave up the turn when bombers will not attack an overcast hex, but will a rainy hex in the same turn.

Appreciate your responses though.

NOTE: This is not same one that comes with map changes and is latest. This is earlier and works with older maps/mods/scenarios.

Thus, if you want to continue with older map and scenarios, you can use this.

*bump* I guess.

It helped me with my old saves.
Key thing was the Naval Support issue, but truly like the Mine fix too. With few mines it's a good thing to unload mines on ships that isn't used to any minelaying.

Haven't found any other issues, so for longtime players with old saves like me against the AI this was a perfect patch.
