Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd
44-10-22: CW units press into southern China, pursuing a large 4 Div IJA Corp. 10 days ago these IJA units were full strenght. Allied air has caught them in the open terrain causing a slowdown in movement. Allied 14th army/4th corp is in full pursuit. I suspect allied air really did a number on the IJA Divs because they head to Nanning to get under woods/rough cover, leaving the southern path to Canton open. The chinese win the race to Nanning and have captured a level 5 fortress city. John does not realize he is moving 4 good Divs into a trap with no way out of Nanning.
Allied supply to Nanning from Rangoon is weak.
The roadblock at Chumpion begins to crack.
800 miles to the south the US 14th corp attack into Davou and the 1stAUS corp clears out Cayagan.

Nanning is overstacked eating alot of supply. If I make an attack in overstscked situation the attacker is butchered.
So Nanning is a pass thru location for past three turns as the allied CW/Chincom/usa UNITS PASS THRU HEADED EAST TOWARD CHANGSHA, HONGKONG AND CANTON. A LOT OF UNITS HAVE ALREADY PASSED THRU HEADED EAST.
Ground combat at Nanning (72,55)
Allied Bombardment attack
Attacking force 15863 troops, 321 guns, 56 vehicles, Assault Value = 3189
Defending force 61960 troops, 486 guns, 121 vehicles, Assault Value = 1622

Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd
Not often I hop on here to report something GOOD in mid-November 1944.
This is a day I will gladly, but WEAKLY, call out BANZAI!
The game is afoot south of Sumatra. An Allied convoy is spotted and several weak Japanese air strikes of about 50 Fighters, 35 TB and 9 DB find the convoy sinking a Brit CL and 4-5 AP. The next day a STF built around a Japanese BB and 4 DD intercept the remaining ships and CRUSH ALL OF THEM! At the end of the action, the Japanese are down to shooting spitballs and strong, manly curses at the last ships...

In the bigger scheme, it isn't anything but we shall happily take a small victory.

I cant deny the Jap Victory. I looked for reasons this TF was "OUT THERE" and cant recall why. I could not see the TF color Blue and TF41 is surely "THE LOST TF".

Allies press on many fronts.
1. CW troops advance from Sabang to langsha.
2. CW w/chicom advance down Maylay Toward Singers.
3. CW w/ Chicom within three hexes of Chansha.
4. Chinese 2 hexes from Canton.
5. Chinese are past Kukong headed east.
6. Aus 1st corp land on Paney in PI.
7. Davou 14th US corp and Aus 2nd Corp is in mop up and prep for future ops.
8. USA just dropped 270000 supply into Hanoi.
9. US 24th corp and 3rd Amp Corp land with 5 divisions at Akita.

Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd
44-11-17:
Akita was chosen for assault because:
1. Clear hex
2. High stack ability
3. Easy move east adjacent to Hachinohe.
4. Fear of IJN surface fleet showing up on the east side of Honshu. Seems less likely with a Sea of Japan coast landing.
5. Main landing at Akita was 5 divisions, 2 corp hq, and alot of artillery.
6. After landing one division each was sent NW, NE, E, SE, and SW. as soon as hex was cleared. All divs in transit this 2 day turn.
Armor outran the divs and has already arrived at Hachinohe without INF support. So I am expecting a massive IJA counter attack next turn at Hachinohe to clear out those fast moving amphibious tractors (LVT2) before my slower INF divisions arrive.
7. I figure John will have massive INF Divisions on rail ready to move north if I dont cut the rail lines.
8. Found a choke point south of Akita and north of Sendai...allies dropped 3 AR regiments, one naval landing support unit, and one SEEBEE regiment. north of Sendia using barge/LST. I read in the threads that SEEBEES cut enemy attacks drastically. So I attached the SEEBEES to the AR above Sedia and cooked the popcorn to see what would happen.
9. SW of Akita in the rough hex I was able to drop one Airborne regiment using floatplane transport. They have to hold until Akita is cleared and the 98th division walks down the road to them. This turn the 98 is about halfway there. Note the major road. The exp on the 98 is about 57, so they may crack under pressure.
10. This turn four additional divisions are loaded up and headed to Akita in amphib mode for reinforcement along with many 2nd and 3rd level support units.
11. All these units are part of CentPac command (Nimitz).
12. NorPac(Halsey) has 3rd Amphib Corp with 4 divisions in reserve, Prepped 100%, destination to be determined(or known but not announced)...??? In this theatre of operations I count 14 US INF divisions and about 1 division worth of armor. It may be too early to invade Japan because 2/3rds pacific forces tied down in PI and CBI.
13. All 4e BMR have been reassigned to airfield night bombing as of this turn to disrupt IJ air and drive down pilot morale and decrease unit coordination as the allied landings continue.

Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd
The screenshots are nice but they don't tell us the outcomes of the battles - e.g. how did the US tank Bns fare against the two RF gun units in their hex?. Is it possible to post a CR of significant actions with or after the screenshots?
