AE/AKE

Post by Dereck »

In reading "Beans, Bullets and Black Oil", the author mentioned that ordnance came from depots on the west coast and that the AEs (and associated other ammunition type cargo ships) reloaded from there to deliver to the fleet.

Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering if anybody emulates that by sending the AE/AKE ships back to the west coast to reload instead of just reloading at any port.
PO2 US Navy (1980-1986);
USS Midway CV-41 (1981-1984)
Whidbey Island, WA (1984-1986)
Naval Reserve (1986-1992)

I play against Japanese AI with a non-universal supply house rule (US units must use US-made supply, Brit/Aus/NZ/india use Commonwealth supply etc.) but I just move US-made supply from CONUSA to PH by xAKs and load AKs/AKEs in PH with CONUSA-made supplies.

They're far too valuable to risk the gauntlet of IJN subs that congregate off San Francisco and Los Angeles. Like other players, I use the myriad xAKs to bring supplies to forward depots (which vary according to how the war has developed).
fair winds,
Brad
