MCM - Mine Countermeasures Ship not functioning?

Hello,

Going through the Mining tutorial, and curious why the MCM - Mine Countermeasures Ship does not clear / destroy mines? Is this unit not functioning properly?

It appears to have sensors and capabilities to do such operations, but in my tutorial it simply gets hit by mines that have already been detected by helicopters or other ships.

Game version: v1.08 Build 1676
