More modding options

Post by Daza99 »

I hope in the future we will get more sfx for "yes sir".."Consider it done"...etc.. and more variety of spoken confirmations to mix things up. Or even an overhaul, as currently some voices are unsatisfactory to put it mildly. I get Vic doesn't have a studio behind him or big budget.

What about opening this up to more modding possibilities/capability where a few from the community could make some audio packs (particularly making use of Ai voices for example at least those who don't mind listening to Ai generated voices can install it and those who detest the idea won't have to lose sleep over it.

Also it would be cool if there was some SFX tracks for different events that pop up in the Vidcom, what if there were 2 audio tracks that could be used to have background sound (eg riots or fire and sirens) and the other for a voice over like a news anchor talking about the incident. Or sometimes the voiceover might be "This morning unexpected events unfold..." and the rest is text.

While on the topic of Vidcom, what if there were more events that are just for immersion, rather than part of a decision you have to make. For example it might be some "news feed" like about a corporation or that the local private economy is struggling in debt (if true) and worker unrest there could be some random quote from a worker mentioning how they are pissed at being underpaid or their work conditions suck because of power shortages etc, these could be machine state logic driven by core variables of the game. There could be some templates in place and examples. I don't know if this idea is feasible but would be cool to see.

This could add immersion if there are a pool of news feeds per typical events in the game that is randomly picked if the state is true in game. I would love to see some modding options for this too, once a framework system is created to hook into current key variables in play (morale, work morale, economy, major shortages, alien life threats and made up news that embellishes already existing snippets we see in events eg, traders being harassed on the borders might have another news piece that fleshes this out a little more. A fire broke out at such and such and a particular sect or gang/crime syd is blamed, maybe it was one of their head quarters.

If the players regime wouldn't allow actual accurate reporting and you are running a dictatorship then there could be made up news that reflects that.

Anyway I could see these ideas really give the game more flavor in the immersion side of things either being part of the Vidcom or new decisions being made (aka mods) that might have small or larger impact on choices, but even light ones could just be for flavor. Currently a lot of the events decision pool is rather limited and repetitive. Modding could really open this up.

It might be already possible for modders to do what I am suggesting? But if so, then how about making this more easier to implement or easier modding tools that will remove some of the complexity to make them. I recall Vic saying something a long the lines of he might make modding easier if more people in the community make mods with existing tools. As for me I bounced off the current tools and I would love to have a go at making new events like i suggested above but do not know how. If Vic could make the tools easier to use and perhaps have a manual for it. But that isn't likely to happen soon as he is very busy with the latest DLC. But i hope modding can be addressed in the future with regards to making it more accessible.

Excellent comment! Especially the part about the news feed. I was just thinking about new assets: television and a troll factory.
