Tpt system

Post by Tazak »

I'm loving the transport system, not just for heli assaults, but also the ground transport aspect

Gotta ask though as I'm sure its been considered, what were or are the pro's and con's of implementing it more widespread to all mech formations

In the British army, we were trained that we were infantry first and foremost so when the battalion was assigned to a mech (or armoured infantry role), we still maintain a skillset where we could operate up to and beyond 24hours without our 432's or warriors, indeed night patrols were conducted on foot or moving by foot at night to a activity ensured a high chance of tactical surprise

I can see that the data files would need a serious amount of work but wondering what the design limitations would be

We have no real plans to convert all mechanized forces into TT-type transport/passenger systems. There are issues with doctrinal use, gamey tactics, handling troop drop-off and pickup, and tracking who owns whom. For a more ad-hoc transport era, like WW2, it might make more sense for infantry moving in trucks and half-tracks. The system is really there to support the more transient transport methods like air assault and amphibious operations, where the transports go home after offloading forces.

One of the big issues with transitioning mech units is we lose the automatic dismount based on SOP without adding in a bunch of code work. While I'd like to do it at some point, don't have time right now. (Plus the work for just handling mounting/dismounting easier in general.)

thanks for the responses gents, it was more a curiosity question as I recalled a old conversation around IFVs supporting dismounts from the flanks
