Support vessels and cargo capacity

Post by Bella »

I’ve read the seminal paper made by a person of this community about supply vessels and their functions. Brilliant. Useful. I know I need to load AE and AKE with supply in order for them to supply vessels. But why do AS and AD have cargo capacity? The reason is not explicitly mentioned in the paper. Do they need to have supply to do their job? Love the game!

For spare parts stores, torpedo magazines, ammunition reloads, lumber and metal sheeting for ad hoc repairs, medical supplies, plus they likely carried refrigerated goods and provisions for these ships as well. Basically all the items you needed to operate as sort of a floating naval base in an isolated or undeveloped area.

All repair type aux do two thing for the types of ship they can support, repair and re-arm them. Supply is not used for repair but it is used for re-arming. If the ship is also in an isolated base it can also provide supply for any ground units that maybe present.

I've always wondered why supply isn't used in the repair process but never bothered to ask why.
