Aircraft Deemed Below Ground Level

Post by fitzpatv »

Playing Northern Fury 30 (Lance to the Chest), I tried to engage a Soviet Hokum chopper with a Mistral mounted on a Norwegian Hauk-class PCFG. The helicopter was flying at 200' and the ground level beneath it was 453', so the game interpreted it as being at -253' and, therefore, below the minimum 16' AGL engagement height of the Mistral. A Phantom attempting to intercept the chopper later had the same problem with its Sidewinders.

Using Version 1.07.1567.06.

Thats a pretty old version. I think something like that was fixed a while ago.

In the scen/save you uploaded the Hokum is landed and the Norwegian PCFG in port.

Probably the same problem described in this thread.

That's really strange. The Hokum was very definitely airborne and the PCFG was not in port. Also, as the chopper was only 200' above a ground elevation of 453' (or should have been), there can't be any issue with it being above its operational ceiling.

Are you sure it's the same problem?

As for the version, it's the latest official one according to the update routine. Anything more recent is Beta only OR my update routine isn't picking-up the latest code.

You should check your Matrix My Page for the latest official version. I don't trust the Matrix launcher.

1674 is the latest release version. The latest "official" beta is 1728. The forum version is 1776. You should be on 1674 before you report any "bugs".

The helo scenario problem linked above is a negative AGL, so it is the same problem.

What is very different is the altitude, because that scenario is located in the mountains of Afghanistan, not the coast of Norway.

Perhaps you uploaded a wrong scen/save?

There was only the one save file for Northern Fury 30, so it is the right one. I'll otherwise trust your judgement about whether this duplicates another bug.

I'll use My Page to upload 1674 before I next play. Thanks for the advice.

Done. It's actually 1676 and installing it was a nightmare, but I got there in the end.

Perhaps it is related to changing the format of the file instead of zipping.

Was it a .scen or a .save? Though changing to any of them will work and CMO will load it and the result is the same helos grounded in Flora.

After removing them from the mission and taking off one of them, it is possible to reproduce the bug. So it is not a problem only in high mountains.

It was a .save file before I changed it to a .zip.

Good to know that you've reproduced the problem.
