no tutorials

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

I bought this game cause I read they were going to have tutorials for this game so I can finally learn a Gary Grigsby game. But just empty promises so far. This is going in the virtual dust bin along with War in the Pacific and Warplan Orange. I really need to stop buying games from Slitherine since they dont allow you to refund their games.

If you check out Cannae Gaming channel on You Tube the guy is doing a truly excellent set of video tutorials on the actual tutorial scenario.

Highly recommended.

Well I spent months reading all of Anthony Beavor's Spanish Civil War book last year so im ready to get at this game. Lot of these games just have the barrier of actually letting players understand their games. GG games are a massive beasts so creating tutorials for them aint a easy task. Hopefully yall compare it to other war games that are easy to understand and more popular so we have a frame of reference.

thanks ill take a look at it. Thats another issue though. 51 minutes for a tutorial is a huge barrier too. Wish someone made a 10-20 minute video that covers the basic mechanics. SO many people do AEGOD videos on how to play their games and I never learn cause their videos are too long and never get to the point. Many times the you tubers going on long tangents on personal stuff.

Its why its better just have in game tutorials that hold your hand.

and I completely understand that most people who play GG games are board gamers or gamers who played games from the 80s and 90s. But some of us got into war games by playing computer games like Panzer Corps so meaty instructions are a big barrier of entry. And some of us genuinely like to learn a more complex game too. Just need to a bit of help.

There is zero personal content in Cannae's videos but I get some folk prefer shorter key point videos.

Worth considering though if you get stuck.

Hey guys,

As an example of the sort of tutorial videos you can expect from me over the coming days/weeks/months, take a look at my WitP tutorial series. WiS videos will be done in the same style. I will aim for brevity, clarity and usefulness.

Mark here, in my other guise ;) That's very kind of you, thanks. Especially as I think you watched the original version with some missing images (now fixed).

Looking forward to watching the Spanish Civil War version of D-Day in upcoming episodes as your collected rabble crashes into Ibiza like a Geordie stag party. :D

A 51 minute tutorial is really not that useful. Especially for just part 1. If i want someone to read to me a 441 page manual i would just read the manual. We need tutorials that simplify the mechanics enough so someone trying to get into the game know the basic mechanics enough to understand how to play around with the game. Not a thorough expert dissertation how to perfect the game. That can be made later on once a novice player spent enough time with the mechanics.
More you can get interested players to learn the game enough to enjoy the game quick as possible better chances this game can make sales and get more people into the genre than just the few people who played War in the Pacific 20 years ago cause they are use to playing large scale board games in the past.
