Info bars are really large
Hello WIS folks, I'm running the game at 3840x1080, non-windowed and info bars at the top and bottom of the screen are really large and kind of pixelated. The map and popups look great but due the info bars size the map view is really limited. Is there a setting to remedy this?
Re: Info bars are really large
Do you have a screenshot showing the issue you could share with us?
Could you also please upload the following files for us:
1. DxDiag - see following post on how to get it here: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=380505
2. Your game's preferences file, by going here: \Matrix Games\War in Spain 1936-39\Assets. Please zip up and upload the 'WISPrefs.dat' file.

Thanks, we will investigate.
Do you happen to have any Windows DPI scaling active?

Hi there, I am having the same issue - the bottom UI ist too large to play for me. Please find the requested files attached.
I am running at 5120 x 1440 in fullscreen. I also tried windowed mode to the same results.

Re: Info bars are really large
If you choose "Enforce Low Resolution Art" in the preferences menu, this will reduce the size of the menus being discussed here.

Re: Info bars are really large
I tried "Enforce Low Resolution Art" and it compressed the bars some but it also compressed them quite a bit on the right side of the screen with respect to the map. The font also changed and the fidelity just isn't there. It just doesn't display as good as the map and popups. Appreciate the suggestion though.

Thanks all for the supporting info. We have a public beta coming soon that should help address these issues.

Not sure if the patch was supposed to address this issue but this is what I'm still seeing after installing it.MaximKI wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 1:31 pm Thanks all for the supporting info. We have a public beta coming soon that should help address these issues.
Re: Info bars are really large
Try to play in windowed mode and uncheck "Dynamic Stretch to screen Width". You may have to not select you native resolution, select a lower resolution, because on my computer, uncheck "Dynamic Stretch to screen Width" don't work with my native resolution.
Re: Info bars are really large
I wanted to share a short update from my side.
I installed the latest beta update, but unfortunately the UI issues are still present for me and the game remains unplayable on my system.
On February 3rd, I submitted a refund request under ticket #2026020310000594. As of today, I have not yet received a response. I understand that support queues can be busy, but I wanted to flag this here as well.
This is genuinely disappointing for me, especially because I really love the idea and concept behind War in Spain. I bought the game within the first hour of release. I have been a Matrix Games customer for 19 years, and this is honestly the first time I have felt let down. That makes this situation particularly unfortunate.
I still hope the issues can be resolved, as I would very much like to experience the game as intended.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

We're sorry to hear that the latest update didn't address your issues and that you're still experiencing issues. Updates are an iterative process and we do our best to resolve issues; however, it's possible that there are some cases that we miss. We expect to keep supporting War in Spain with fixes and improvements to the UI as able.
Are there any new issues that you have experienced from the recent public beta?
I've notified our support team that they should proceed with your refund request. As you correctly point out, our support team is quite busy, but I'm sure they will get to your request promptly.
Re: Info bars are really large
Thank you for coming back so quickly on this. There are no new issues for me in this update that I am aware of. Maybe the popup window for orders wasn’t there anymore, though I really just had a quick look to check if the scaling issue was fixed, so I am not sure.MaximKI wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 3:15 pmHello kbxt.kbxt wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 12:55 pm I wanted to share a short update from my side.

EDIT: The refund already came through, thanks! I will keep an eye on the tech forum and will repurchase once stable. All the best!

For everyone with this issue, Beta Update v1.65.52 didn't resolve it.

Re: Info bars are really large
Same story for me. After 20 years of purchasing almost every game released by Matrix/Slitherine this is the first time I reached a point of frustration that I requested a refund. Although I've haven't had a response in the almost 2 weeks since I submitted my request. Guess I'll just ride it out now and hope this issue is fixed sometime.MaximKI wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 3:15 pmkbxt wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 12:55 pm I wanted to share a short update from my side.

But neither of you confirmed whether you had applied the workaround given by Groomy:HelmutHerr wrote: Wed Feb 18, 2026 9:11 pm Guess I'll just ride it out now and hope this issue is fixed sometime.
Both of you say you are playing the game in screen resolutions that are not listed in the supported resolutions.Groomy wrote: Sat Feb 07, 2026 8:54 pm Try to play in windowed mode and uncheck "Dynamic Stretch to screen Width". Indeed there is a setting. Use a supported resolution in windowed mode and don't try to force the game to fit what must be a super wide screen.HelmutHerr wrote: Thu Jan 22, 2026 7:07 pm Hello WIS folks, I'm running the game at 3840x1080, non-windowed ... Is there a setting to remedy this?
At least you tried windowed mode, but there are no screen resolutions supported of 5120. So it appears you are using 2560x1440 and forcing it to double in width. Sure, the developers could rewrite their code to scale horizontally and not vertically for you to do that, so the bottom hex bar gets double width but not double height, as is apparently the issue from the screenshot. But you could easily have just run the game at 2560x1440 and had a fully working game. There is absolutely no benefit to having 5120 pixels of map visible. In fact, I see no reason to play this game at any bigger than 1400x1050.kbxt wrote: Fri Jan 23, 2026 9:14 am Hi there, I am having the same issue - the bottom UI ist too large to play for me. It is unfortunate that MaximKI has thought this is a technical error that might be "fixed" by the patch, when both of you have chosen to ignore the list of available Game Resolutions in the Video Settings and failed to explicitly state this.
