Thanks ! Bill, our sidebar guy, needs to look at this !!

Can you

(A) send a save from the start of the turn (the highest numbered save 50 or above should be the auto save from the start of your turn ?

(B) Tell us what buttons you pushed before you saw the start of this behavior ?

(We've had ~100 people testing for 7 months and haven't seen this symptom yet - but we appreciate the report and want to fix it !)

Bill may have other questions, he should wake up around 3pm Eastern USA.

Also, can you run a dxdiag and upload, that might provide useful hardware info. Thanks !

Could you also confirm if you applied the Launch Fix from the game launcher before running the game or manually moved the ddraw.dll file from the Manuals folder to the root installation folder?

Will do this now...

(A) - Attached as a Zip
(B) - no buttons pressed - its in this state from the moment i load the tutorial. Only when i move the mouse to the left does the 'ghost' of the LCU list appear.
(C) dxdiag attached
(D) - Drivers are up-to-date as of today

Happy to wait - here for the long haul with the game and franchise & anything I can do to help

Yes, I applied the Launch Fix from the game launcher.
What happens if you disable the launch fix? Simply click on Launch Fix on the launcher again, and it should be disabled.

Understood. Thanks for the note, we recommend continuing to use the launch fix then.

Thanks for the DxDiag. Regarding the save file - have you tried zipping it up before uploading it to the forum?

Also, are your graphics drivers up-to-date?

Just playing around too see if I could fix it myself..
The screenshot shows the LCU list on the left, without it glitching, when the preferences are set to 'windowed' and at 1600x900.

But the text is not really legible (behind you can see something to do with ships) on the screenshot it looks ok, but in reality its not.

So I tried windowed at 1920x1080 and the LCU didnt display again..

This is a stupid question but I have to ask. Have you clicked on a hex with LCU'S in it....GP

Fair question as I guess the title of the thread is somewhat misleading (my bad)..
Its not really an LCU problem but the boxes/graphics arnt working..

So for example when click on the setting button on the top left that also doesn't load properly - and if I move it the screen turns black - as per one of the pictures.
lcu
What it also mean is that I cant use that side of the screen properly because the ghost of the LCU list pops up.

Sorry for my terrible explanations !

Worst case, if you cannot find a setting that does solve the issue, I have a developer backup UI for side bar and preferences.
In Assets/WIS_Settings.INI
look for
USE_PROGRAMMERS_USER_INTERFACE = 0
and set it to
USE_PROGRAMMERS_USER_INTERFACE = 1

That switches to a DirectX based UI. It might work better with the default resolution, but works a bit different.
This alternate side bar is not always on screen, but an alternate view of the windowed unit list.
The BACKSPACE key then switches between side bar and windowed unit list if one of both is currently shown, but otherwise is invisible.

It is not covered in the manual as it is my own backdoor access to UI during development.
And I did not expect the stand alone side bar or preferences to cause issues.

If you have to use the programmer's UI I can walk you thru in how to use it.
The only responsible person. (Unless I can frame someone else)

This is a weird one. We haven't seen anything similar in testing. You do have an Intel GPU as the primary with an NVidia as the secondary GPU. I assume this is a laptop? We did find that with laptop that have dual GPUs with one being an Intel, the Intel pretty much does all the work unless deactivated. There is a way to deactivate the Intel GPU for only some programs, but for testing it's easier to do it universally. Go to the Device Manager and expand the Display Adapters section. Right click on the Intel GPU and click Disable Device. The screen should go blank for about 20 seconds, but the Nvidia will take over. On most systems the screen graphics will show up in a higher resolution (everything will be smaller), but in testing we found the game ran better than way.

Be sure the graphics fix is off, you shouldn't need it.

A question related to this topic.

Is it possible to turn off the LCU list? I can minimize it but I cant seem to get it off my screen. I tried to move from one unit to another via the unit display but the LCU list prevents that.

I'd rather just move from unit to unit rather than have a master list always active on my screen via a pop up.

Edit:After playing around with it I have to say the LCU list pop up is broken. It keeps freezing the game.

Hi wdolson,

Yes, it is indeed a laptop.
When I'm back with my laptop I will attempt the suggestion above. - Unfortunately that wont be until Monday, sorry I cant report back sooner.

There is a similar discussion regarding this issue in the main forum FYI. So it might be an emerging trend.

Ok,
Without muddying the water got a similar issue.
This time on a desktop PC.
When i select anything the LCU box pops up for less than a second then disappears.
For example in the screen shot im trying to select the militia Cav - it pops up and goes.
Its very distracting.

Not using Launch fix

When opening an LCU detail window as you have there, the sidebar is supposed to hide while it's open and then unhide when the window is closed. It looks like the sidebar is instead becoming transparent. What happens when you close the LCU window?
