How is the AI for singleplayer

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

I'm really interested in this game. Just curious how the AI plays in single player.

It can give you a good game. There are no scripts unless a scenario designer does them but the AI will react to the situation in the game.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

As a veteran WITP-AE player, I can report that it's WAY better than any AI in that game.

It's "Not Bad". I am seeing some errors in the first month or so, but it gives a pretty solid account of itself initially, which is more than I can say for almost all other wargame AIs

I do wonder if a white board was utilized to flesh out mechanics.

The AI in the game plays well.
I can say that it is literally amazing.
I have been playing the big campaign for several years now and it is a big improvement.
(I still have some ideas for improvements, but that will come later). :P

Ey Dali101 you may want to go https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=415164 and check what happened in my main campaign scenario. It looks weird.

While the AI overall is a massive improvement over any I have seen, I still do see some behaviors that need to be tweaked. Not sure if others are seeing this, but some items:

1. Republican AI runs ALOT of unescorted ships through the Strait of Gibraltar: This is unnecessary, since Odesa is also a supply source and easier to get to for the Republic. And it is way too easy to pick-off ship after ship as Nationalists.

2. AI does not seem to react well to encirclement: You can easily encircle an AI position; a human would see this happening usually and react. (I am talking about controlling all 6 hexsides of a hex; that fixes the units in place)

3. AI sends alot of units off on "Guerilla Raids": These can be annoying, and AI does seem to focus on rail lines, which is smart....but alot of units end up dead if they march behind Nationalist Lines

4. Air Attacks seems kinda random and sporadic, though I've seen worse from an AI; they are bombing stuff that matters, so that's good!

Overall, it's doing OK on defense. I can see long-term wanting to find a human though.
