Fog of war - does it effect both the map and reports?

Post by altemosejd »

Had a bit of an interesting one earlier today.. Normally I speed thru the turns and utilize my reports to track sightings, intel, sigint, etc. instead of watching and trying to log each individual sighting. Well today during a turn I happened to be paying attention and noticed a search plane pick up the KB (or at least a carrier TF of 9+ ships).
During the turn I saw a quick snippet of something like "spotted CV moving NW". When I went to go find it in the intel or operations report, I wasn't able to find anything mentioning that sighting. I went to the location where I saw it during the turn and sure enough, there's two big IJN task forces in red on the map showing CV's.

Is this a fog of war function where I may get the actual report a couple days from now? Or are red IJN markers on the map not always accurate? It was my understanding that once a red marker shows up on the map it's a pretty good indicator that at least something is there. But to not have a report with that sighting being "relayed" onto the map seems kind of strange. Maybe I'm over thinking it.

Any input or feedback would be awesome, feel like I'm going crazy!

Yes, if you watch the screen during replay TF can be spotted but not appear on the map during the planning phase. You do of course have to be looking at the right area of the map as the map does not auto locate for naval search, it only loate to combat locations.

If they are on the map then as far as I know the location is accurate. That of course does not mean that any strike on the TF will find it. Only units that appear on the map are reported.

Fog of war, it's a wonderful thing. But you do have to watch the map during playback. Otherwise you could miss something....GP

Thank you both for the replies! Adds another layer of complexity, love it. Just glad I wasn't missing something obvious.
