Jochen Heiden's WiS Tutorial Series Playlist (9 Feb 26)

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Hey all,

I am combining all of my current video tutorials for War in Spain into one thread, and I'll be asking the admin to pin this as a topic above so as not to clutter the general chat. As I make more videos, I will update this post here. If you have any questions/comments/critiques/ and/or suggestions about future video topics, please reply here. Thank you for your interest!

I'm not Jochem and I don't do REAL video tutorials, but Jochem got delayed by a power outage in his area last night, so I'm putting up this attempt to do a no audio (fake) tutorial as I've been asked about this topic several times. So here goes.
===============================

It sounds like M/S have released all the video footage I gave them, so here's some "raw" footage that might be of assistance. One thing we can do in this new engine is "Riverine Operations". That is using small draft vessels to move troops and supplies up and down rivers. The navigatable portions of the rivers are marked with an extra dotted line and have blue circles containing a number, representing the draft at which a vessel cannot move on that section of the river. So in this example we see "11" in the blue circles for the Ebro river. That means all vessels must have a draft of 10 or less to move on this river.

I do a full example of creating and loading a Riverine Amphibious Force, with an Amphib TF and a Bombardment TF. The "bombarding" vessels just have machineguns, so they won't do much damage, but they will hopefully absorb some shots that would otherwise be directed at the troop carrying ships.

I use Riverine operations in WIS as much as possible. Its difficult for the other side to predict where you will land next, so it presents "horns of a delima" situations for the other side. Its also possible to evacuate friendly cut off troops via similar methods and I've done that a time or so as well. It takes a LOT of tiny vessels to move even one full strength Battalion, so gather up all the low draft vessels you can find for your Riverine Operations !

I don't do voice, so you'll just have to watch and pay attention 😄

Eventually Jochem will do a REAL tutorial on Riverine Operations, but until then, here's my actual, even if crappy, example 🙂

In this video I am going to discuss how to start a PBEM campaign with another player as both the Nationalists and the Republicans. This is a complicated process if you've never done it before, so follow along closely!

Since this game has similar Port size based TF loading restrictions to AE, wouldn't it be better to make use of the large port at Tarragona for loading the troops that are there in order to relieve the pressure on the port at Barcelona? Just asking in order to understand the game system better.

Barcelona's port has not been a LIMFAC for loading up at this point.

Tarragona is a Civilian Port.
Limitations are as follows (according to Google Notebook LLM):

In the "War in Spain" game engine, the primary limitations of a civilian port center on its restricted infrastructure for military operations, particularly regarding rearming.

• Drastically Lower Rearming Levels: Civilian ports have significantly lower rearming capacities than military ports of the same size. For example, a level 3 military port has a rearming level of 1100, while a level 3 civilian port has a level of only 40. Even at the maximum size (level 10), a civilian port only reaches a rearm level of 100, compared to 7000 for a military port.

• Inability to Service Large Warships: Because civilian ports lack specialized infrastructure, they generally cannot handle the rearming requirements of large warships. They are typically limited to rearming Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) weapons or other very small weapon systems.

Reduced Effectiveness of Naval Support: Naval support squads are much less effective when stationed at a civilian port. Each squad provides only 20% of the rearming bonus it would offer at a military port. Specifically, a squad adds only +1 to the rearm level in a civilian port, whereas it would add +5 in a military one.

• High Cost of Militarization: While a player can choose to "militarize" a civilian port to overcome these limits, the process is difficult. It requires a high expenditure of supplies and results in the port being 100% damaged (closed) during the reconstruction, requiring many engineers to be present for repairs.

• Identification in UI: Civilian ports are identified in the Hex Information Display or bottom panel by a trailing "c" following the port size digits.

Despite these limitations, civilian ports are capable of rearming ASW weapons regardless of size, which allows convoy escorts to stay supplied without needing to return to a major military naval base.

Things to consider.
Probably no effect for this particular scenario, but anyway.
I love this approach.
Soo much to learn. :D

That affects only re-arming Naval vessels, not loading transports.
