Tiller Battleground Game closes during replay and defensive fire phase

Recently started a pbem game and find I'm having a problem.
First time it showed up during the defensive fire phase, part way through the game just shut down.
Restarted the game and saved the turn before advancing to the fire phse and it did it again.
Tried restarting my pc and was able to finish the turn.
Got the file back from my opponent and it happened during the replay of his fire phase.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem.
Running Win 10 with the latest updates.
Not having any problem with any of my other games including several of the newer JTS games, Napoleonic and Panzer Campaigns and a War in the East pbem.

... i know, old post—but hey, i'm currently researching the possibilities of these old games and found this dead parrot in a dusty corner of the internet ... the parrot would say:

it could be one of those problems with pbem.yyy file from back in the day ... delete these files regularly and you'll have fewer problems with your PBEM matches.
