I have a Republican fighter squadron that shows up every turn on the status reports as having more aircraft than pilots - even though every turn I assign pilots to that squadron.
Here are a couple of screenshots, one from the 20th of July where I had assigned two pilots to fill the squadron and one from the next day where the squadron once again is short two pilots.

BTW: I have just run another turn and it shows the same situation. It is based at Tabernas, just outside Almeria and is on a rail line (there is a DH9 squadron there that suffers the same issue). Almeria is connected via clear rail lines (as far as I can tell) to Cartegena, Valencia, Barcelona. It may be connected by rail to Madrid, though there is a hex (Getafe) which houses all my air units in the Madrid metro area that shoes as "contested" even though there are have been no Nationalist units there for several days and all hexsides show as being controlled by Republican units. I am moving the Republican air HQ from Madrid into Getafe to see if that makes any difference.
