Editor Capabilities & Limitations Questions

Post by Breadboy »

I had some questions about capabilities & limitations of the in-game editor.

Considering a purchase of the game (once or if it hits Steam), and coming from the Strategic Command Series (and played WITE2), I have done some significant modding, scenario creation, etc, and was wondering what is currently possible with the editors in this game? Making custom scenarios, maps, etc., is a major draw for a game for me.
  • Does the editor support changes to the map? i.e., is it possible to make a full new map from scratch of say Greece or somewhere else? Or even does it support changes to the existing map, like removal or additions of railroads?
If that is not possible, are there any plans to introduce that possibility? Whether within in-game editors, or by creating things outside of the in-game editor?
  • Does the editor support changes to Factions/Nations, such as adding additional belligerents or forces?
  • Is it possible to add in new units types, equipment, etc., beyond what is already in the game?
  • Outside the editor, can art be redone and replaced? Such as if I wanted to create a mod changing design of the counters, would this be possible? Or for example I wanted to make sprites/bitmaps (or however its structured) to make the icons little soldiers instead of squares.
  • Lastly - Regarding Events editing, I'm not sure how things are in the game currently since I do not have it yet, but can events with player decisions be created? For example, if I wanted to create an event that presents the player two options to choose between, and those choices could impact other decisions or events in game? I am thinking in the context of strategic command where you can create interesting event chains for the player that present interesting strategic decisions the player must make.
Appreciate any responses, and the game looks really great, it definitely will be a purchase for me regardless once(if) it hits Steam!

No, the editor does not support changes to the map.

Yes. It's even fairly easy to do such changes with the editor

Yes, possible. Not completely sure what exactly you mean with 'new unit types'. But the editor database contains more unit types than the unit types used in WIS.

Yes, possible

Not completely sure. But I don't think that this is possible. However, your opponent - human or AI - will certainly force you to consider some interesting strategic decisions.

No, not really an event chain. But I think there are up to 46 different events you can include in the game if something happens during the campaign, either because of you or the AI. These range from simple info text to increases in morale or experience for the entire army or just a single unit, loss of bases, disappearance of units/officers and so on.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
