1676 General Doctrine Settings not Retained

Post by fitzpatv »

Before playing Sahel Slugfest, I set Doctrine for the French/Chadian aircraft. During the game, I found that my settings on the General tab of the Doctrines window (notably for AutoEvade, Refuelling, Ignore Plotted Course and Weapon State) had reverted to the default values. My settings on the EMCON and WRA tabs were retained.

As it stands, the player is obliged to set General tab Doctrine for aircraft when they first launch as, at this point, the values ARE retained. Needless to say, this isn't always convenient in the middle of a hectic game. It should be possible to set them and have them retained at any time.

We're these aircraft put onto missions with different doctrine settings? There is a pop-up that asks if you want them to revert to default doctrine or stay with the altered ones from the general doctrines tab

Most, if not all of the aircraft had pre-set Missions specified by the scenario designer. I removed all of these Missions and set my own Doctrine. This then reverted to the standard game defaults for the General tab only.

It occurred to me that deleting the pre-set Missions might have been the problem, but it recurred later after I had restored my own settings. The only way to fix it was to launch the plane and reset the Doctrine then. My settings were then retained.

I don't usually use Missions (except for ASW and sometimes CAP) because I feel I have more control doing things manually. I realise that this puts me in the minority in the community, but that's how I play.

I'm encountering this problem again in Northern Fury 31. I note that it only affects aircraft, not ships.

Do you have a specific way to repro de issue step by step?

I checked the NF#31 scenario, change some settings on the predefined missions, and seems fine

The problem doesn't happen with units that are set to Missions (pre-defined or otherwise), nor does it affect ships.

To re-produce it, select an aircraft that isn't on a Mission (and hasn't taken-off yet in the scenario) and (say) alter its Doctrine to NOT Auto Evade, Never Re-Fuel and have a Weapon State of Winchester instead of the default Shotgun. Then, regardless of whether you launch the aircraft or not, you'll find that the setting has not been retained next time you go back to the Doctrine window.

Once you've launched the plane, you can make the above settings changes and they WILL then be retained. However, it is easier to do this at the start of a scenario, especially as you can then amend Doctrine for several like units at once.

Hope this helps. Fixing this would be very helpful, believe me.

Thanks, this is fixed in the internal build and I think was probably fixed in current beta B1776

OK, thanks for that. I can hold on until the Beta becomes official.
