Unit Organization Questions

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Unit Organization Questions

Post by Schmauser »

The game contains regiments/columns based on historical units and would like to change that. For example, would like to group together several Legion bns together since they are currently spread across multiple regiments/columns.

Have looked in the manual and cannot find how to change the unit organization. Maybe I'm thick headed.

Question #1: Can the organization be changed or is it scripted/locked?

Can see how to "try rebuild unit" LCUs

Question #2: How do you remove the LCUs once attached to the parent?

What i've gathered thus far

To Change oob
Step 1: Click on unit you want to change so that the unit info screen comes up
Step 2: Click on "unit organization"
Step 3: Click on "change oob"
Step 4: Find and click on higher level unit you want to change to.

This should allow you to "rebuild" the unit with the changes

To Detach from parent
Step 1: open unit info screen
Step 2: click this button until you get the unit list

Step 3: right click on unit you want to detach

Thanks. Question 2 solved. Part of the way there on Question 1.

Can remove the Column/Regiment and make it independent. However, can't change the BN/Company LCUs.

To be clear, from that screen in your screenshot, if you click on I Bandera de Legion unit(or any unit listed there) and bring up it's unit screen, and then click on unit organization you don't get the option to change oob?

I'll have to noodle with this. Your screenies show the Soria Division attached to the Ejercito Nacional. I have nothing attached to Ejercito Nacional.

oh that's just a random screen shot. Not related at all.

I just don't know why you don't see "change oob"

Can any other units in the that Barron Columna change oob or no?

Nope. Also the detached column has no option to change OOB.

Did you rename the column unit?

I found the unit formation in the Grand Campaign scenario

I'm wondering if changing names has an adverse effect. With that said, I do get the change oob for the units available in the screenshot.

I didn't rename any units. There are many units including the legions that were renamed by the game. I'm thinking it is something to do with my organizational setup. Nothing seems to be linking to higher HQs.

Did some testing and digging. By chance are you running the .51 Beta? I'm still unpatched.

If so, it is supposed to have fixed the LCU level OOB option. Setting independent is still supposed to be a one-way street according to a post in the patch thread.

v1.65.51 - February 2nd, 2026
Fixed issue with ship's air unit withdrawal
Fixed database font in low res
Fixed some overlay UI box font at low res
Fixed crash on sub port attack
Fixed freeze on logistics base 100 (Belearic SCN)
Fixed negative devices
Fixed change OOB <=========================================

What bothers me is that I can't see organization above Division level in the campaign, like can be seen in some of the scenarios like Teruel.

I'll copy out my game, patch and test. Hope it helps and also deals with the turn 130 Seville CTD. If not, I can reinstall and copy in my save for a few more turns before 130. Really want to keep this game going as the AI is putting up several good fights.

Your help is much appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about.

But in the main campaign there is no higher organization above the divisions.
First of all, the division is the highest type of LCU.
Above the division is the corps. But its superiority is rather formal and can be changed.
In the campaign, divisions are not incorporated under the corps in advance. Because corps were often created much later.

You may have more information than I do. My comments are based on what I see in the scenarios and the available Grand Campaign LCUs.

Example: Ebro scenario has a fully implemented Army => Corps => Division => Regiment/Brigade structure. You can see the full organization when selecting the Unit Organization on the unit panel.

By comparison the grand campaign shows very little structure. Only the division level. However, there is the National Army, 3 army commands (Del Norte/Del Sur/De Africa) as well as a single Corps (Madrid Cuerpo de Ejercito). Additional Corps start to arrive in May 37 and additional army commands in June 36.

Perhaps the game is coded to show a better organizational structure once those additional commands arrive.

I'll add this as we could definitely do with this big QOL feature and is relevant here.

When using change oob, it would be nice if the list was filtered by distance. I spend so much time scrolling.
