Panzergruppe Bothe Withdrawal

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Panzergruppe Bothe Withdrawal

Post by Schmauser »

Nationalist Campaign game. Bothe withdraws on January 12, 1937.

Curious on any insight why this unit leaves. Can't find anything on the Internet about the unit. Plenty about Von Thoma as part of the Condor Legion.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what sources the scenario designer used, but a brief search yielded the below. I think it provides some insight albeit limited.

AI generated answer
"However, Oberleutnant Ernst Bothe is mentioned as one of the commanders of a panzer company within Panzerabteilung Thoma, the German armored unit deployed in Spain during the conflict. This unit, part of the Condor Legion, was formed in September 1936 from volunteers, primarily from Panzerregiment 6. Bothe commanded one of the three panzer companies established in the unit, alongside Hauptmann Joachim Ziegler and Hauptmann Heinrich Wolf.

The unit was primarily tasked with training Spanish Nationalist forces and conducting armor tests, rather than engaging in large-scale combat operations. There is no evidence in the provided context of a formal "Panzergruppe Bothe" being established. His role was part of Germany's broader effort to test tactics and hardware, rather than engage in direct, large-scale combat operations."

Thanks.

Not much time to use it giving transport from Kiel. At best the unit will leave some devices in the pool when it withdraws.

Then don't use it at all, the Republicans will be grateful!

I probably won't.

Rather use the transport to ship wurst, brotchen, pilsner, schnapps and cigarettes to keep morale high. ;)

This panzergruppe exits for one month in the editor. Then it is dissolved into pools. So if we count the transport from Kiel, it only exists Spain for a few days. Then it is deployed and reinforced by PzGr Drohne.
Of course, it can be done in another way. The game designer chose this one. The dissolved technique will strengthen the spanish tank pools.
