Expanded Submarine Descriptions

Post by kahta »

I created a tool with AI to generate a description for every submarine that was missing a description. The entry is formatted the same for every entry. The data is taken from the database and the text is generated by an LLM.

Please let me know if you see any issues or have any suggestions on how this can be improved. I am now working through the rest of the database and expect to be done by end of day tomorrow.

I looked at 3 or 4. Very nice. I cannot vouch for the technical accuracy, but I didn't see anything out of whack. It adds nice context and a bit more information than just database numbers and I like it.

I would suggest that at the top of each you add something like
***** AI Generated Info *********

I think this is a good idea as it may contain errors, and it tells the user it's not Matrix Games info. Also I think ALL AI generated content should have disclaimers/watermarks... but that is just my opinion.

Overall, nicely done.

Thanks kahta, very interesting.

IMO, the Ai may be more or less right or wrong depending on the source.

So like the descriptions already done by persons, you may add the sources to the text if possible.

An example.

OVERVIEW: The KANYON, also known as Status-6 or 2M39 Poseidon, is a nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed unmanned underwater vehicle developed by Russia and publicly unveiled in 2018. It is designed to autonomously deliver a strategic nuclear payload against coastal installations and carrier groups.

DETAILS: The designation “KANYON” is the NATO codename, while the official Russian designation is 2M39 Poseidon. It was developed by the Rubin Design Bureau as part of Russia's strategic deterrent modernization. The vehicle is powered by a nuclear reactor and features autonomous navigation systems. The payload is believed to be a high-yield thermonuclear warhead.

TYPE: Nuclear-powered unmanned underwater vehicle (strategic weapon)

FUNCTION: Poseidon is launched from modified submarines and uses autonomous inertial navigation supported by GLONASS to reach target areas. Upon approach, it is designed to detonate near naval bases or coastal cities to cause large-scale damage through blast and radioactive flooding.

NOTE:
IOC: Unknown (initial test launch reportedly in 2016, public reveal in 2018)
Manufacturer: Rubin Design Bureau (Russia)
Operators: Russia
Platforms: Project 09852 Belgorod (confirmed)
Conflict used in: None

Frankly, just do it until its good enough. Its better than nothing and anyone with an issue can help clean it up. My limited audit found it to be fairly accurate for the ones I checked. Might be useful to do it for images as well.

This is what generative AI was built for. Organizing large amounts of structured and unstructured data into usable info. Great job.

Thanks everyone.

Quick update:

I'm adding a few things to the descriptions:
- AI generated indication
- Notes on doctrine/employment and suggested role in a scenario
- DBIDs for aircraft that can use the default magazine and use the aircraft facilities on the ship

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.
