Grand Campaign 1936 AAR -Nationalist side

Post by cristianwj »

Hello everyone, after the game was released, I embarked on a major campaign in which I will be playing as the National Army.
The main strategies of the National Army are as follows:
(1) Northern Region: Concentrate forces as much as possible to control the port of Ortigueira; concentrate troops in the Oviedo area and abandon Gijón; assemble forces in Pamplona to lift the siege of San Sebastián as soon as possible and cut off the Republican Army's land communication with France.

(2) Central Region: Delay the Republican Army's actions in the Madrid area as much as possible, and attempt to withdraw troops through Guadalajara to the Sigüenza line.
(3) Southern Region: After seizing Seville, advance westward as much as possible and cooperate with amphibious landings to occupy Huelva. Other troops will attempt to control Cádiz and Algeciras.

(4) Africa: Concentrate forces near Tetouan. Troops in the Canary Islands will prepare to embark for Huelva.

By August 18, the National Army had largely secured the Ortigueira area and was about to begin the Asturias Campaign. In Santander, the Republican forces had entered the defensive phase of a siege, while further east, Bilbao faced an offensive from the National Army advancing from San Sebastián. In the central region, both sides had reached a stalemate in the areas of Ávila, the Somosierra Pass, and Sigüenza. In the southwest, the National Army began advancing toward Badajoz in an attempt to link the northern and southern zones. In Andalusia, the National Army had significantly expanded its controlled territory, beginning to threaten Jaén and Málaga. As of now, the National Army has suffered over 19,000 casualties, while the Republican forces have lost nearly 120,000 troops.

Nice maps!

In the game, I don't think there is any benefit to cutting the Republica Del Norte off from the French Border. IRL, that was a concern, but not in the game. It has no impact.

However, having San Sebastian, with a clean rail connection to Pamplona IMO will make it much easier to get fuel and whatnot to Eastern Spain....so it's a worthwhile get anyway

Also, I think an important early Nationalist objective is to clear the rail line from Seville to Valladolid, and thereby connect Nationalist Spain. It's alot of territory to take, but there aren't really any Republican forces in there.
