Yes it was and it was returned to the US Navy after the war.

This was the battle damage that lead to her scuttling. Was put into floating drydock at Surabaya on 22 February. Somehow they failed to make adequate support in the drydock and Stewart fell off them and was damaged even more. With the approach of the Japanese, the navy planted explosives inside, blew them and sank the drydock as well.

Japs must have been desperate for patrol boats and such, recovered her and used her until the end of the war.

Not really that desperate. One officer basically thought that it was worth repairing and did so but it was not done at an expedited pace.
