Hi Strombringer,

did you download the cgn-file and place it into the campaigns-folder? If you don't do that, the icarus-mod is not found when you start the game.

Yes, that's where I put it. I downloaded the TRP mod for WiE and that went perfectly using the same path that I use for this mod.

Just guessing here: did you download the 1914 Icarus 7.0 folder as well as the .cgn file? Both need to be pasted into your Campaigns folder for the mod to load.

I downloaded the 7.0 Zip File and opened that up in the Campaign folder. Where do I download the .cgn file?

Download it from the same Dropbox link and put it into the same Campaign folder. Every campaign has its own folder and a separate .cgn file with the same name. Let us know if that works.

Hi, I have v7.0 installed and it is working fine, I have a PBEM game going with no problems, yet today there is an open challenge for a v7.0 game up on the server and I'm seeing it in red with 'version not installed' if I hover over it. I reinstalled the mod but that didn't do anything. Any idea what the problem could be?

Hi - it is probably because the person who has posted the challenge is using a slightly older version of Icarus 7.0 than you are (or vice-versa). The current open challenge appears in red on my computer too. As you will see on page 12 in this thread, I made a couple of small corrections to Version 7.0 after releasing it in late January. I did not want to confuse people by renumbering the mod, so I have simply encouraged people to use the latest version of the files, which are dated February 8, 2026 in my dropbox link.

May I ask where I can find the latest version? On page one of this thread there only is a link to 6.8. (I got the 7.0 version link by a friend). And is it enough to replace only the cgn file to have the latest version or should I reinstall the whole mod?

Hi Cfant - I have updated the first post on this thread so that the link there now takes you to Version 7.0. ( Previously, you could only find it by going to page 11 of this thread).

You will need to download and install the latest versions of both the Icarus Version 7.0 folder and the .cgn file in order for the mod to run correctly.

I downloaded the .cgn file and now your Mod shows up as a Campaign choice. However, when I click on it, I get a cannot find directory error. If I click on victory conditions they show. Please advise.

Hi - Did you download the 1914 Icarus 7.0 folder as well as the .cgn file? If not, that is probably the source of your problem. Otherwise, I would suggest downloading the mod files again and re-installing them again in your Campaigns folder. Perhaps something got corrupted in the downloading which is giving you this error.

I redid them and got the same error. The .crn downloads as a folder unlike Version 7 which is a Zip file. I don't know how to put a folder into the Campaign whereas I unzip Version 7 right into WWI Campaigns. What I've been doing is turning the .cgn folder into a Zip file then unzipping that into the Campaign. Could that be the problem?]

You should be able to copy the downloaded and unzipped content from your Downloads folder, and paste it all into the relevant Campaigns folder. There's no need to zip anything your side.

Thank you for the response. I'm very inexperienced in installing Mods, and other than unzipping one which installs everything, I'm lost. I don't know how to paste as suggested and I don't see that as an option. All that's close is Copy.

Don't despair! You aren't required to zip or unzip anything to install a mod. Just do the following:

1. Follow the link on the first page of this thread and click on the link in my Dropbox which takes you to Icarus Mod Version 7.0.

2. Copy the yellow folder labelled 1914 Icarus v7.0.

3. Using Explorer go to My Games/Strategic Command WW1/Campaigns

4. Paste the 1914 Icarus v7.0 folder there

5. Go back to my Dropbox link and copy the file labelled 1914 Icarus v7.0.cgn

6. Go back to My Games/Strategic Command WW1/Campaigns

7. Paste the file 1914 Icarus v7.0.cgn there

8. Open the game and you should find 1914 Icarus 7.0 now listed under your Campaigns. Click on it to play it in your preferred mode. That's it!

I have just discovered a glitch in Version 7.0 which prevented a Decision Event from firing for the U.K. to build a field artillery unit in Mesopotamia in July 1916. This is now been corrected for both the 1914 and 1916 campaigns. Please find the latest versions of the mod in the Dropbox link on the first page of this thread. The latest versions of the mod are dated February 28, 2026.
