Anti-aircraft defense of the troops and territory of the Spanish Republic (the author of the report could not be identified)
5) Anti-aircraft guns of the 1931 model.
Of the 32 guns of the 1931 model that arrived in January of this year, it was planned to form two separate battalions (three batteries), each with a purpose – one battalion to cover the main group of troops on the Central Front, one battalion for the defense of Madrid and two separate batteries for the defense of Valencia and Albacete.
However, this purpose later changed somewhat: with the fall of Malaga, one battery was transferred for the defense of Almeria, as a result of which only 2 batteries remained for Madrid.
Albacete was chosen as the center of forming and training, where there was a suitable artillery range (Chinchilla area).
On January 29, the first Spanish anti-aircraft battery was formed. On February 11, after ten days of training, this battery was transferred from Albacete to the defense of Almeria.
On February 3–4, 1937, three batteries (French, German, and Czech) were formed as part of the first international anti-aircraft battalion, which was intended to support the operations of troops on the left flank of the Central Front. On February 13, this battalion was deployed to the front and defended the Arganda-Chinchón area south of Madrid. The battalion had only received 6–8 days of training and had not previously participated in combat exercises.
On February 5–8, 1937, the fifth Spanish battery was formed from personnel transferred from the Vickers guns in Cartagena. On February 15, the battery conducted firing exercises at the Chinchilla training ground. Subsequently, the battery remained for the defense of Albacete (airfield, artillery depots, city, and railway station).
On February 12–14, 1937, the sixth battery was formed from a group of communists who arrived from Madrid, and on March 1, the battery was transferred to the defense of Madrid.
On February 20–22, 1937, the seventh Spanish battery was formed, and on March 1, the battery was sent to the defense of Valencia.
On February 22–23, 1937, the last eighth Spanish battery was formed, and it was intended for the defense of Madrid (its transfer was scheduled for March 5).
