Post by Q-Ball »

Just captured Bilbao as the Nationlists in Sept '36, and found....a large stockpile of fuel. This can't be right, can it?

Yes, you are right....even further indication that there is some sort of bug or issue there, right?

1.9 Billion Fuel makes Franco's Spain the #1 Fuel Exporter through WW2

You could launch the game, set it to Nacionalist AI and load the previous turn to the one you showing in the screenshot to check whats the stockpile last turn Republicans had it. So the bug can come from turn of conquest or be something older.

True, this does not look like "correct".
Can I have all the Auto Saves of that game ?
Maybe I can track what does happen there.
What patch do you run ? So I can use the same SCN data and exe for the test.

I apologize, it turns out I played past this part, and no longer have auto-saves. Next time I'll make sure I keep those

But at least flagged this as something to look out for if it happens again

Curiously, despite all that fuel, it didn't seem to spoil, despite it being clearly over capacity

The game didn't last long enough to really tell the impact (ended in November 1936 with capture of Madrid)

I just had something similar happen to me while playing the Nationalist side v 1.65.53.01. At first, I thought it happened during September 1936 in Iznailoz, as mentioned in the recent poll. Backtracking through autosaves, I now see the stockpile first appeared at Albolote during the resolution of turn 32.

At the start of turn 32 everything looks normal at Albolote. But at the start of turn 33, the fuel has ballooned to nearly 2 billion tons even though there was no combat or change of possession at this base. Kind of looks like what happens when a local variable is not initialized. I've attached the autosaves for turns 32 and 33.

This is a known issue of version 53 and before. The cause got fixed in V 54, but the fuel that got created did stay.
The issue was introduced by the rule for not disbanding near enemy, and the AI does merge it's RSV into one unit, transferring all items and then disbanding. This would not disband due to the new rule and items merged with other AI units next turn again, causing them to multiply each day.
Finally disbanding would then either dump the items to a base, or give it to a LCU that "killed" the respective AI units.

In your case it seems your units killed such fuel loaded AI units. See the list of all your LCU, sort by fuel in unit. There are 8 or so having a huge stockpile.
The saves are using a V 53 exe as it seems
I think we will no longer see that issue with games started under V 54 and above.

I did update to v 54 and have continued playing with the fuel stockpiles, since I didn't want to abandon a campaign in September 1936. Interestingly, the huge stockpiles show up as fuel shortages in the Status Report. The numbers may be too large for the memory set aside in certain logistics calculations, so they may be treated as effectively zero.

Yes. The problem with huge amounts of fuel is absolutely common.
Unfortunately.
Ever since someone came up with the idea of fuel for LCUs, it's been all wrong.
In every village there are tens of tons of fuel, sometimes hundreds of tons.
I'll leave aside the problem of storing this product (it's just hard to imagine that in a mountain village they would store, for example, 117 tons of fuel).

The fuel is "somehow" generated and appears all over Spain in huge quantities.
Unfortunately, it completely shattered my original fuel concept, which was based on reality.
