Operation Wintermärchen II

On the Caspian front as German forces prepare to destroy the trapped Soviet armour the enemy rushes Infantry reserves south to support the remaining enemy units not caught in our encirclement's, however this operations is all to late as 1st Pz Armee outflanks the Soviet tank units and reaches the Caspian coastline north of the enemies positions creating a new pocket.

6th Armee and 17th Armee now begin the destruction of the cut off enemy troops, fighting is short as enemy resistance collapses, almost 35,000 enemy combatants are captured or killed.

Italian Front
Situation Report Dec 16th 1944 Turn 77
Army Group C

The weather in southern Europe eased somewhat giving the enemy a chance to launch air assaults against the Axis front line however enemy air activity was not as heavy as expected by Air Commanders, the enemy attacks ranged from small to medium size with enemy strength no larger than 100 planes, the attacks on ground forces and defensive fortifications caused negligible damage.

While enemy raids on the mainland were not great in numbers Luftwaffe Command decided marshal its forces on conducting intercept operations against enemy bomber forces attacking southern France, there were heavy air battles over the island of Corsica throughout the week.

With the weather easing in southern Italy the Allies attempted to breach the Axis line launching major assaults in three sectors of The Volturno Line.

On the Coast with the US 2nd Corps leading the attack the enemy assaults General Balck's LXXXX ArmeeKorps hoping to smash through and secure the coastal town, two attack during the week fail to break the line, further inland the Allies launch there biggest attacks against 14th Armee, massing nearly 700 hundred tanks but once again the attack is held up with enemy suffering heavy losses.
The enemies third push in the centre against XIV Pz Korps defending the line south of Isernia gains some ground but cannot force the defenders back and the enemy attack falters.

On the Adriatic line 10th Armee's front remains quiet.

Thanks for the kind words I got two weeks to go in this AAR which I have been a bit slack in doing this last month, of course its all over on the Eastern Front but there is still the Western and Mediterranean Front ( WITW ) to continue with.

I have looked into War In The Pacific and would be tempted to purchase the game and take a look playing it but at the moment the new WITE2 Patch which the current AAR is not being used has me looking forward to playing a 1941 campaign.

Another AAR sure, I enjoyed doing this one but it might be a little while in the making.

Again thanks for the support

Western Front
Situation Report Dec 23rd 1944 Turn 78
Army Group B / Army Group H

It has been almost 2 months since the Allies were expelled from the Western Europe and there has been no indication so far of any planned second attempt by the enemy to invade France, OKW continues to buildup the Atlantic defences but winter is in full force across mainland Europe and only Allied air forces conduct any activity against The Westheer, in Paris Rommel feels confident the Allies will not make another attempt until at least the spring or summer of 1945 if at all, by then however the Russians more than likely will have surrendered, Germany will have only a one Front war.

Despite atrocious weather across western Europe Allied bombers continue attacks in Holland and western Germany, The Ruhr region is heavily targeted as is Hannover and Frankfurt, Hubert Weise commits every available fighter unit of Luftflotte Reich to battle, there is heavy fighting in the the skies with both sides taking losses.

France also comes under attack with the enemy committing there bomber forces to attack targets in the extreme weather, with almost all German air defences engaged further north only Josef Kammhuber's I Jagd Korps is available to defend the entire NE and NW regions of France, Paris is hit by heavy attacks and Normandy suffers a massive bombing assault but not without paying a price as bomber losses are high.

Southern France

The main commitment in the bombing campaign in the Mediterranean is now in The Provence region where the the US 7th Army struggles to hold the beachhead in and around Cannes with both 1st Armee and 19th Armee maintaining a stranglehold of the area.
The enemy survival depends on both air and sea support with Corsica providing them with supplies.

With the failure of the Normandy landings and the southern France landings hanging in the balance, with Russia on the verge of surrender the picture looks bleak for the Western Allies, east front troops will be transferred west over time and the balance will change.

With the situation dire the enemy launches a massive assault concentrating on certain sectors of the front, at Grazzanise the scene of countless battles thus far over the course of the campaign, US forces with 101st Airborne leading attempt to push General Balck's LXXX ArmeeKorps from the city, but the attack is held with heavy losses of US Paratroopers.

In the centre Hube's XIV Pz Korps line is also threatened as Brit 8th Army launches a series of combined attacks towards Isernia, despite being outnumbered two to one in tanks the Panzers hold.
On the Adriatic line an assault lead by the Pol 2nd Corps attempts to push Erich Straube's Panzer troops away from the Biferno river defences and allow US and Commonwealth forces to advance across,16th Panzer contains the attack and pushes the enemy back with heavy losses.

On the Caspian front after destroying the last enemy push Kleist is once again faced with another attack on his line, a larger force including infantry support but the enemy is spread out and to thin to make any real risk to Axis defences, the Feldmarschall's forces can easily deal with this new threat with superior mobile units.

Notes

Well its been a long road for The Axis in the East ( this AAR ) however I will finish off the Western Campaign at the War In The West forum, 2 by 3 and Matrix were kind enough to allow me to post a combined AAR here but I think its only fair I continue the fight " in the West " since its now a one front war, I don't know how regular reports will be but I want see how it plays out to the end, never finished a western campaign in fact didn't even get to 1944 in past attempts.

But I digress the eastern campaign here has been played with the 1.02.52 patch from so long ago and I am eager to practice with the latest patch focusing on the logistics particularly the 41 / 42 winter as the Axis of course, so its back to the 41 campaign for awhile.

Well I guess that's it.
