asw MISSION

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

This is a good question, I'm curious what differences there are with WITP-AE

In that game, you optimally need to fly at 1000 ft, and have crews trained on ASW. I don't think any pilots at game-start are very ASW-trained so that's an issue.

NAV SEARCH works well for detecting subs, and they have much less success if you can spot them....that's another way to go, though you won't sink any with that mission

If you are sure the airgroup is set to 100% ASW, and you are sure it's not flying, then it might have to do with airfield size

Overall, subs are in a much less lethal environment for them than WITP-AE....which is why I think subs can have more success in WiS (and IRL, Italian subs sank ALOT of ships)

I just learnt, Alessandro told me in another thread, that you need to have your "base de aviacion" units in combat mode for them to use their Aviation Support ( AVs) to work on planes ( and i think you need to have free AVs to launch missions??). That could be your case too.

All units that are supposed to perform some function must be in Combat mode.
For example Port base, Aviation base, field hospital etc...

ASW. Generally they all have low experience. Submarines, their captains and the crews of the aircraft that are looking for them.
In 1936 it is probably not possible to destroy or seriously damage a submarine with an aircraft (at least I haven't seen it in 4 years of playing...).
But it is important to find it... other elements at sea react to it and it has some development. So just detecting it is an undeniable success.

I actually had an aircraft hit an Italian submarine with an small aerial bomb a few turns ago in my game. I did not see it on the sunk list nor did I switch sides to look at the damage.

Yes, later yes.

I saw it too (but really little).
I wrote about the beginning of the war and the capabilities of the Nationalist Air Force to threaten a relatively large number of Republican submarines.
