Airfields and Aviation Support points map filter( key A) and screen base info.

Post by melvi »

Hello,
While trying to be more effective using my aviation I am trying to relocate some squadrons closer to the front. I thought I could use the map filter you get with key A to see where I had free aviation support points instead looking for my “base de aviacion” units spreaded across the map. The map filter shows me where I have airfields available but all hexes with AF higher than 0 show AVs 0. All of them. As I know I have airfields with “base de aviation” units, so with AVs there, I went to check and looks like the map filter you get with key A is plain ignoring the “base de aviaciion” units to count their available AVs. It is not like if there are planes it is counting and if there are not planes not counting. It is not like the filter show available AVs or unspent AVs , it just show 0 for every hex with an airfield regardless of if there are units providing AVs ( used or not).

I am not pretending I fully understand how the management of air bases work but let’s take Jaen hex. I have there a “base de aviacion” unit with 11 AVs as his info screen show and I have a squadron with 6 planes, 2 landed for maintenance and 4 available for duty. Then I have the info in the base info screen where if you click on the left bottom side you get more info about planes operations. I think from my 11 available I have 2 used on the planes on repair. So that’s 11 -2= I should have 9 left. But the info tells me I have a maximum of 6 , that I have no clue where that data comes from, then if I use 4 for the mission I should have 2 left ( or 9-4= 5 according to my maths). Then the info says I have negative 4 “free to use”, that I have no clue if they are 4 available or lack 4 ( 6 available -4 am sortie= 2, 2-4 pm sortie= -2 needed for the pm sortie).
It I use the 9 I think I have it is 9-4 am sortie= 5, 5-4pm sortie=1.

I am sure I am missing something.. but not sure what I am missing there

AV support shows correct on my end at least.
I think your AV support units might be in move mode, packed up for strategic move or set to training.
Switch them to "combat" operations mode if you wish them to work on aircraft.

Yep, issue solved, i turned them to "combat". They need to start the turn in that mode for the AVs appear in the filter.

Is this "pearl of knowlodge" mentioned in the manual? cause it is first time ( i think) i read about "base de aviacion" units needing to be in combat mode to work on airplanes.

Engineers also need to be in combat mode to work inside a base as well.

This issue about aviation support needing to be in combat mode and engineers needing to be in combat mode to work in planes or engineering duties brings me the question: Do logistic units need to be in combat mode to work in logistics? or do they work on logistic "by default" whatever is their "operations mode"?.
