I believe there was a way: Click Displacement and then Type and he will sort the Types and Displacement.
Was this option for sorting deleted?
I copy a link from the steam forum, where i post it. This post from an other user described the problem better then me:

I’m not sure a standard feature of any excel spreadsheet can be called a bug.
Anyway, I’ve found the feature very useful to quickly see the list of ships I have in an area: if I selected first type, and then location, I would see all my ships ordered in each location by type: so first all my BBs, then BCs, CAs, CL…. In each location. This is the right way to see this information.
Instead now it’s very confusing: it can start listing a few DDs, then a BC, then a CA, then a few more DDs, then a couple of CLs…
This is because whatever column we select, the ships will be listed by year.
I think the programmers have a lot in their hands now, not only the incoming DLC but also to fix the many issues in the latest update, some of them very serious. For example, as soon you start the game in 1920 or 1935 you will get messages saying you haven’t ever researched any aircraft type. What kind of testing has been done to overlook that? I mean, V01.01.22 was supposed to be a true update not just a beta.
Anyway, sorry about the little rant, I’m sure the team is very pressed to get the DLC out and things happen.
I just hope they will look into this issue with the columns as soon as possible. After all, some people call RTW a spreadsheet game. Well, it’s much more than that. But let’s hope the spreadsheet part of the game will soon work as it should.
