forage problems

Post by pdzun »

Hi,

I have encountered two issues with forage:

1 - I think modified forage value for FR controlled COR corps is incorrect (please see stack in Bayonne)

2 - when clicking auto-forage button, Swedish corp in Moscow is foraging while it is not auto forage (possible loss of factors) and could be supplied by depot

For #1, I think the values are correct but the log messages could be better. I abbreviated them a while back so they are easier to read in the game log, with Good or Lost showing before being cut off. But I removed the die roll info. I restored this so the info is more complete.
1809, Jul France I Hanover Corps (Conf of the Rhine CTRL) Forage:3 Lost=3 Mods:2 Roll:4 Net:6
1809, Jul France I Bavaria Corps (Conf of the Rhine CTRL) Forage:3 GOOD! Mods:-2 Roll:2 Net:0
The Bavaria Corps used unused move points (-4), the Hanover Corps did not (0). The other mod is for the other 5 corps in area, max of +2. So, -4 +2 = -2 Mods, or 0 +2 = +2 Mods. And then the die roll. So if Net <= Forage, then Good. Otherwise, losses or elimination. Does this clarify things or are we still missing something?

For #2, I ran this a couple of times and the Swedish corps did not forage or auto-forage for me? No game log messages for those 3 corps. So I don't know.

What i'm seeing in corps information before forage attempt is 3(0) value for corps not moving .

Shouldn't it read 3(-3) so in fact autoforage ?

3 base value -4 movement, -1 own territory, +2 stacking?

If my calculation is correct then corps should be eligible for autoforage using autoforage button, but it is not happening

I see now. Good catch! So the rule is "If the corps did not move into an area outside the Major Power's territory this
month and is not now in such an area, "-1" is subtracted from the random number." The function unit_was_path_controlled was not correctly checking minors being in their Major Power's territory. This is fixed. The message now reads "[FORAGE] Auto! [DEPOT] Bayonne / $0.5" for that Bavaria Corps.

Just to be clear, the function checks area current control for where a unit has moved and/or where it is, and if it's not the counter nation and not the minor's Major Power then you don't get the -1 mod. Interesting that this has not come up before now. Better late than never!

Thanks for the explaination, but I suspect it could be something more, at least in my playthorugh.

initial situation showing 3(0) for 6 corps

then moving one corps by 1 area - it is reading auto forage now, but from 3(0) we should have gone to 3(-1) - removing stacking penalty (-2) and using up 1 movement point (+1)

then moving one more corps to the same location and we go from auto to 3(-1) for both corps - but the modifier should go down just by one point (due to stacking penalty +1), isn't it ?

What do you think ?

I'm playing 1.26.04, so if those issues might be corrected in 1.27, then I'll just wait for the patch and do some testing then. I was trying to install betas but I couldn't find the right order and isntaller woudln't let me through

Also I would like to thank you for all support you give this game. I'm back after ca. 10 years and it is a lot of fun to see EiA in such a good shape (playable :-)).

I'm really thinking to encourage my table top EiA gaming group to use matrix EiA as an alternative to the boardgame, or maybe do something hybrid.

That is why I'm doing all this playthroughs, I remember back 10 years ago, how frustrating it was to play a game for weeks or months and see it lapse due to bugs.

Thanks !
