Denmark Strait: Formation Spacing

Post by HalfLifeExpert »

I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug or if I'm missing something, as I didn't seem to find an answer in the manual (updated version)

I've just completed the official Denmark Strait, 1941 scenario as Britain, and I actually had a surprising "honey, I broke history!" result, in that I got a flash-fire magazine hit on Bismarck's A Turret, and the whole beast exploded!

Great fun, but I noticed right from the scenario start that Holland's division, which contains Hood and Prince of Wales, the two vessels start the scenario VERY close together in Line Ahead formation, as in they are almost touching, as if they are laid up pier side.

I can understand a bug where they spawn like that, but there doesn't seem to be any formation SPACING controls so that I could force them further apart, for clear reasons.

Due to Hood's superior speed, the two ships drifted apart eventually as the battle proceeded, but I feel that:

A) Hood & Prince of Wales start way too close to each other to be realistic/safe. It's like they're going have a fender-bender any moment. I suspect this might be a small bug with the scenario.

B) If there isn't such a method, there should be added a simple order system option to loosen or tighten formation spacing, both for flexibility, and to counteract occasional possible bugs like this might be.

Ship images are significantly larger than the ships, so it's not as risky as it seems

If you care so much, you can manually position the ships further apart using the scenario editor.
