Arachnids on an Ice Planet!

Post by eddieballgame »

Playing a 'PBEM' game vs 1 other, the Unclassified Planet turned out to be an Ice Planet; which, btw, is a great challenge for anyone interested in this planet type. Reminds me of a RimWorld Ice Sheet Challenge.
The surprising thing, for me, was encountering Arachnids on this ice cube...would never have expected that life form.
Love the surprises this, great, 4x offers.

From the manual:

"""
5.4.2.7. ARACHNIDS
A non-human Minor. These spider-like creatures are on the verge of
consciousness and are found on many Planets. They have very tough
carapaces and slow metabolism and they survived almost everywhere they
were present when the Dissolution War happened. Why they had a small
presence on so many human Planets is a question whose answer has been
lost in time. Diplomacy is impossible, and they’ll kill any humans (civilian
or military) they can get their hands on.
"""

IIRC, they can appear pretty much anywhere. I can't remember where I heard it, but a vaguely plausible "in-fiction" explanation is that they were genetically engineered to be of some use (livestock, guard animals, pets?) for human colonies, thus explaining why they are present and adapted for each planet.

Great point & thank you.
Considering there is a species of flea that lives in glaciers; I guess discovering Arachnids on an Ice Planet should not be such a, huge, surprise...after all.
