Cape Spada 1940

Post by nikdav »

This is a remake of an old scenario I created ten years ago to test "Steam and Iron" with WWII ships, but with poor results.
Now, with RTW3 expanded battles, it can finally make sense.
Any feedback is welcomed.

July 1940, two Italian light cruisers, the Colleoni
and the Bande Nere, en route from Tripoli to
Leros, intercepted four British destroyers
northwest of Crete, but during the engagement
the Italian cruisers had a nasty surprise.

A fun and quick scenario! I played as Italians, perhaps a little too conservatively for fear of the Brit DD's torpedoes. I managed to damage some of the DD's with medium damage whilst receiving light damage in return. Unfortunately, I had to disengage as my magazines grew low.

After reading about the real outcome of the battle it became more clear why the Brit DD's kept trying to lure me north ...

RTW3's ship designer is a significant improvement over the old SAI ship designer.

my old and new Bartolomeo Colleoni cruiser design:
