ELO game ends
Hasmat_slith (Axis) Win vs Snooky51 (Allies) Loss: Quick moving game that saw allies resign late 1942 with Russia conquered and China on the ropes though that doesn't do justice to Snooky's sound and sneaky play after a long hiatus from the game. Fun game, good competitor.

Directly to the slaughter but I´ll try my best![]()
Result: Zarevic (Allies) LOSER v Taifun (Axis) WINNER.
Allies couldn´t stand even till 1943... Despite my mistakes the fact is that Taifun plays so well...
Congratulations and thanks to Taifun for the game.

ELO Ranking notes:
It is early days, but the Allies won 60 percent of games played. 3 out of 10 games also provided a small bonus to the losing player for lasting until 1946.
Next month the rankings should appear on a permanent website.
Questions and comments welcome.

Good on you firsteds for putting together a new ladder. Yes bonus points for lasting till 46 for axis is a good idea. Time will show if there are any tweaks that may or not be needed to be made but looks reasonably good at this stage.

Well, I actually lost as ALLIES. I think it's fair that tho bonus is valid for both sides as there are different skill levels.HarrySmith wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 1:12 pm Good on you firsteds for putting together a new ladder. New Elo game started:
Taifun (Allies) v Aquavita (Axis)

I still have 1 one more slot for another game, looking for an Axis opponent.

ThunderLizard11 (allies) [WIN] v. HARRIS45 (axis) [LOSS] - Decisive defeat for Axis in June '47. Excellent game by Harris. Axis made a strong push into Russia capturing the Caucasus region and nearly reaching the Urals. In Asia, Japan made excellent progress in China taking Chunking and holding most of China until well into '46. Allies took Norway, Sweden and Finland and then made a slow push into SE Europe finally getting Italy to capitulate which opened things up a bit. Great turn return by Harris.
ThunderLizard11 (axis) [WIN] v. arikogut (allies) [LOSS] - arikogut resigned Jan. 45 with Germany doing well in Russia and Japan taking over most of Asia including Australia/NZ and a good chunk of India. Allies took a Europe first strategy with almost all MPPs into units for France and Low Lands invasions. Germans pushed the first invasion into the sea and the second one was on the ropes. This did delay things in Russia as units had to be transported back west, but Russia has lost the Urals, Caucasus and Germany was advancing on Moscow. Great game by arikogut with 3-4 turn returns on some days.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
With respect to the game TL reported below I have a couple comments that are not a complaint but an expression of frustration. The game ended in March '47 in accordance with game rules when Japan's NM reached zero. That's fair however given how hard it is to secure an axis victory against an elite player I so wish I would have had an opportunity to play the last three turns. Unless I am very misinformed the axis achieve a tactical victory in May '47 if they control one axis capital and very importantly Chungking. The game facts where that with the exception of Nagasaki and some minor squares occupied by allied amphibs Japan controlled home island with well-fortified positions occupied by ground forces. Likewise, Japan controlled a well-fortified Chungking. In all fairness allies had overwhelming air and naval superiority and almost unlimited ground forces. It is highly likely that with three turns they could have captured one or both of Chungking/Tokyo. So, I am not disputing outcome just the frustration of playing a long hard-fought game with computer decided result.

Game ended: hasmat_slith (Axis) defeats Pekkavilamoura (Allies) with Allies resigning July 43. Fast-paced game with lots of action in Med and Russia. An early knockout of Russia ultimately proved decisive with a cascading effect on UK, India and China. Quick turns and friendly interaction made for a fun game.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Harris is correct that Japan fell because of hitting zero NM. It is possible Chungking could have held because Harris set-up a very strong defense. Allies were advancing from coastal China towards Chungking so it would have been close. One surprise though is Japan still had decent supply for Chinese units in the interior despite having no ports connected to those units. I would have thought supply would have dropped to zero or 1-2 once the units were cut off.HARRIS45 wrote: Sun Mar 08, 2026 4:53 pm With respect to the game TL reported below I have a couple comments that are not a complaint but an expression of frustration. ThunderLizard11 (axis) [WIN] v. HARRIS45 (allies [LOSS] - Allies resign in July '43. Germany moving toward Urals and in the Pacific Japan are taking India where numerous allied fighters and marine bombers have been destroyed on the ground. Allies have landed in Italy and taken N. Africa. I think Allies would have started to turn things around as they had a ton of units in the Med ready for action. Great turn return by Harris who is quickly becoming a top player.
ThunderLizard11 (allies) [WIN] v. Rudolf Steiner (axis [LOSS] - Steiner losses by default as no moved made by him for well over a month. Allies were in strong position in July '42 having stalled axis advance into France until January of '41. It was heading for a likely Allied Decisive Defeat. Rudolf has a habit of ghosting his matches so be aware of that.
